My Stepmother in law made cranberry sauce. It was cherry jello with cranberries & oranges in it. Umm...gross.
The worst part is, I make fantastic cranberry sauce.

Best--- ten thousand black olives. My family knows I love them so they always buy like 10 cans. Until Jasper I never had to share with anyone else. And green bean casserole! YUM!
Worst--- turkey. I just don't like it when it's baked. Deep fry that bird or don't bother!
But the best part about the trip will be tomorrow. We always go to a local ice cream place and get the Super Duoer Pig Dinner, which is 12 scoops of delicious hand churned ice cream. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Worst: stuffing (too salty) and the salted caramel apple pie I made (no real flavor)
Can I add a bitch about the day? This is no surprise to me, but always makes me mad. My nephew doesn't ear much of anything (he's almost 5). He never has. His mother always says "Oh he will never eat that", but they never make him. It's maddening. So today he ate two baby carrots, half a dinner roll, and about 20 Nilla wafers....and for doing such a great job he got a mini s'mores pie. Grrrr. Meanwhile I sound like a super bitch because I put food in Ethan's plate and tell him all has to be gone or no pie, and have to remind him of this a few times. I know I'm doing it the right way, but I'm just so sick of it all.

At DH's family which is where we were first, I have one SIL that is like me and the other who is like yours. I am the "meanie" too when I comes to eating. Jack ate really well at mySIL's and so I let him have pie with whipped cream. We went to my aunt's for dessert and to visit with my side of the family and told Jack in the car that he already had his dessert and he wasn't allowed any more. He played and never asked us, but of course my aunts and cousin were all, "can't he have a cookie?" Um no, you should have seen him an hour ago inhaling pumpkin pie, if we give him a cookie, you may actually get to see that pie again. And wait, I'm the mom. So we can take a Baggie of cookies home, but he is cut-off. They all think I'm a food-Nazi. And Will did not get any pie before we my SIL's , so he got to have a cookie. Everyone was like, "why??"
Best-turkey w/gravy and stuffing. Basically anything. I love Thanksgiving food.
Worst-the fact that we weren't even offered leftovers at my SIL's house. I didn't even get to take what remained of the broccoli casserole that I brought! By the time I went to help clean up, MIL and SIL's mom had attacked the kitchen. everything was washed and put away. I figured my casserole dish was still on the buffet with the food in it. Nope, it was empty and the rest was in the fridge. For them to keep. I sort of was like,"oh." And SIL made a point to say that it wasn't much and if I was craving it, I could take it bc she knows what it's like to crave things when you are pregnant. I just said, "nope I'm good." I also overheard her telling someone that she was only cooking thanksgiving dinner for 17 people to eat that day, not for everyone to have some to take home. (
Luckily, my family is Italian and there are always leftovers, even when we don't eat there. So I got soMe turkey, stuffing, and 2 pieces of pie from my very generous aunt.

What? this is so weird to me! Who wants 17 people's worth of leftovers? I can't believe she thought she needed to give you permission to take your own dish home.
Best: turkey, stuffing, ham were excellent as expected, but somebody made a sweet potato casserole that I just couldn't get in my mouth fast enough. Julia ate a ton of it haha.
Worst: green bean casserole... not sure what they put in it, but it had kind of a vinegary taste and it covered up the taste of the green beans, which I actually like. Sophia got overtired and ate pretty poorly despite talking about how much she wanted to have a "BIG FEAST" every day for two weeks prior
This is hard. They had a brined oven roasted turkey and a deep fried. The oven roasted was so moist. The deep fried was dry but flavorful. I think I may have to go with the turkey. Sides were sub par.
Worst: mashed potatoes. Not sure what happened but they were just dry and crumbly and not good.
Worst: the gravy my mom "makes." It's from a jar and has no flavor. I miss my grandmas gravy.
Best: the French silk pie I made. It was amazing! And the turkey! So good.
My H is the best! He went out and picked up a small turkey for us. It's slathered in butter and in the oven, the HOUSE is starting to smell FANTASTIC. We are going to do stuffing in the oven, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Simple. But YUMMY!!
My SIL and her no leftovers for anyone policy can stuff it! And now I'm going to be researching all the leftover turkey recipes.
@redneckmomma25 How do mashed potatoes get messed up? That would make me sad.
Best: I enjoyed my fruit salad and green bean casserole. The turkey was pretty good.
Worst: My MIL was involved to a lot of stuff was too salty for my taste.
DD only ate her roll and this orange sherbert thing my MIL made. After I cut MIL off from giving her more orange stuff, she did eat a little cranberry sauce. Then she ate 1 green bean and pointed to her tongue saying 'ow'. Her word for anything that hurts, is cold, uncomfortable, and apparently (in her mind) gross. Lol. She was done after that.
Best: Turkey and gravy, and the stuffing - I got a "best Thanksgiving meal I've ever had" from DH because of it. Granted he had been drinking, but it really was pretty darn good.
I was wondering how your spatchcocked turkey turned out! My husband roasted it that way too and it was fabulous...best skin I've ever tried from the bird. And he made a gravy out of the neck bones that was delicious, which is saying a lot because I am not normally a gravy person.
Sounds like someone doesn't know the beauty of butter and milk. It always takes more than you think...then one more giant tab of butter for good measure. You cannot just mash potatoes to make 'mashed potatoes'.
I also put in sour cream and a chicken bullion cube... Yummy.
Re: Best & worst things you ate/tasted for thanksgiving dinner
Worst (not my favorite) our stuffing bc DH insists on putting the innards ground up in it

Best: my Mom's turkey & homemade sausage stuffing & my sweet potato casserole.

Worst: sweet potato casserole and my grandmas plumb cake. I think she left out an ingredient.
