UTI?

Seeing as I've never been pregnant OR had a UTI before I figured I'd come here and see what people's experiences are. I DO plan on calling my doctor in the morning and know they'll probably have me come in to pee in a cup no matter the symptoms. I just feel like I'm peeing a LOT and there's some pressure in my lower abdomen that makes me feel like I still have to pee even after I've just gone. No pain or anything but UTIs can present with a pretty wide range of symptoms right? I'm just really curious what it is! I've gone through the past 3/4 Symptoms threads and haven't seen frequent urination mentioned but it can also be a normal pregnancy symptom too, right?

Re: UTI?

  • Frequent urination is definitely a pregnancy symptom. My experience of UTIs involved an awful burning-ish sensation in my bladder and when peeing as well as a near constant need to pee. The UTI's I have had have been extremely uncomfortable and distracting. I've had to pee numerous times a day and even hour sometimes so far in my pregnancy and it's definitely a different feeling. Less awful, just obnoxious. Good plan calling your OB. Good luck! Try drinking cranberry juice just in case if you have it.

  • With DS I carted myself off to an after hour clinic once because I was sure I had a UTI. This one didn't include the burning sensation typical of past UTIs, but the frequency was beyond what I considered the normal pregnancy peeing. Turns out baby was just happily resting on my bladder and there was no infection. If I remember correctly I was a bit further along than I am now. I do remember that when DS finally moved it was a huge relief. Get it checked out though and I wish you the best!

OMG! Glad someone posted this. I was feeling the exact same way. I just felt what I thought was some kind of pressure on my bladder. When I do my fetal doppler, I find my baby low, and so does my doctor. I'll be calling my doctor tomorrow, just in case.
  • I am experiencing this today!! It has really put a damper on my holiday! I pee every 10-15 minutes and there is a lot of pressure on my lower abdomen. Very uncomfortable! No burning, blood, or pain when I urinate though. I really hope it's not a UTI! I am calling doctor in the morning. :/

I had a UTI with no symptoms. None. Zero. They caught it during a routine culture at my OB's office. Apparently once it gets to the burning, hurry stage is when is the OMG get help fast stage. I'd say just go in and have it checked; can't hurt!

Ditto!!! No symptoms for me either (but I did have to go pee a lot...just assumed it was because of being prego)...I read that UTIs are more common in pregnancy and many don't have the typical symptoms.

Symptom free UTIs are horrifying! Like I need one more thing to worry about ;) Stopping by the doctor's office (well, the urgent care connected to the doctor's office) to pee in a cup but I'm nearly certain it's just a pregnancy thing now, it hasn't been as bad today.

  • I've had two so far and it feels like a burning sensation when you pee and like you have to go really bad and only a trickle comes out. Doctors can easily identify and give you safe antibiotics. It will help a lot! Also, drink cranberry juice. Hope you feel better!
  • Since I was having similar issues, I called the on-call doctor who told me that the excessive urination is most likely from increased blood flow that happens between 16-18 weeks. And the pressure is probably the baby's positioning and moving. I have my US on the 18th, so I'm trying not to worry too much until then. Good luck!
  • I've had tons of symptom free UTIs during pregnancy. When I'm not pregnant I have regular UTI symptoms, but my OB says it can be totally masked by pregnancy symptoms. Def get it checked out, but don't worry; your doc will routinely check for this every month.
