Alan's birth story!!!

I have been enjoying reading everyone's birth stories so I thought I would share mine!

Alan was due November 1, and my doctor told me if he still wasn't born by November 8th I was to go to L&D to get checked and see how the baby was doing. At 7am I call the hospital and they told me to come in at 8:30 and the OB would be able to check me.

I was told that they could give me the gel to ripen my cervix so I said yes, I was ready! They kept me on the monitors for a little while and then sent DH and I home until 1:30 when they wanted to check me again. So DH and I walked around the mall and got some lunch and headed back to the hospital.

At 1:30 they told me they could break my water and things would progress. And did they ever!! At 2:15 they broke my water and by 2:30 I was having contractions every 2 minutes! At some point I got in the tub but I didn't really find that it helped and wanted to be in bed. At 4:30 they gave me a shot of morphine and gravol which didn't really help at all, just made me tired.

I had to be dilated to 4cm before I could get my epidural and was devastated with every check that I wasn't there. Finally, just before 8pm I was at 4cm and was taken into the delivery room where I got my epidural and felt 1000x better.

At some point after midnight my contractions slowed down so they gave me some pitocin to speed it back up. They had been noticing that with each contraction the babies heart rate would drop and then pick back up, so they were keeping a close eye on that. He was also facing sideways so they were trying to turn him. My GP was there and they called in the OB just in case she was needed.

At 3:55 I was told I was 10cm and could start to push. My epidural had been wearing off for hours at this point and with every contraction I felt intense pressure. They didn't want to up the epidural because they wanted me to be able to feel when to push! I had been pushing for 2 hours and he still wasn't out. At 6am they decided that they were going to use the vacuum and help assist him out. It finally worked and at 6:14 little Alan came into this world weighing 7.11!

I had an episiotomy and so much tearing. After he was born they couldn't get my uterus to contract and kept pushing on my stomach and god knows what else. I ended up hemoraging and lost about 2 litres of blood. It looked like a crime scene in the delivery room! My blood pressure dropped to 63/ 36. It took about an hour to stitch me up. They put in a catheter because I was unable to get out of bed. By Wednesday my hemoglobin still was dropping so they gave me a transfusion and I felt so much better and was discharged on Thursday!

I honestly couldn't be happier despite my scary delivery! And I honestly can not remember what the physical pain felt like.

Sorry this was so long! Thanks for reading!!!
