The wonders of wool... can someone help?!

I've been lurking here since we decided on CDing before DD was born and I've learned so much from you ladies!! Thank you! Now that we've been CDing for almost 7 months I've been looking at wool. But since I have a pretty good stash of covers as it is I'm wondering if going wool is worth it. Anyone have some input on why you love wool so much? I've read up a bit on different sites and think it would be great... but I'd like to have some experience from someone who isn't trying to sell a product. Also, which wool covers do you like best? LO is currently 18.5lbs and almost 27in tall. She's got a skinny waist but a little pot belly so it's been making our covers fit kinda weird right now.
Thanks ladies! Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!!

  • I love wool for many reason, but specially for nitgh time. One of the reason I like wool is the you are never going to have problems with delaminated covers, and second, rashes if you baby have a virus or a diaper rash wool will help to heal the skin better than a regular cover. ( unless the baby have allergy to wool or have a very serious allergy problems). I only use two brand of wool the I really love, for nitgh time, I like Diana soakers, and for day time and naps I like, the one love diaper cover. The Disana cover comes in sides, from a newborn baby up to three or six moths, then is six to one year, and from one to two,and from two to three up to four years. The one love diaper cover you can adjust the side of the cover. If you decide to go with wool cover for the night time is good to have a least two cover or three cover, in order to alternated the cover to help the wool to get dry properly, and for the day time I have only eight. But is except to you how many you would like to have. And for last going with wool is worth it, all the covers the I have are three year old, and in good condition and ready to be use for a third child.

  • I haven't gotten to use my stash yet (due in April) but after reading up I switched from PLU covers with my dd (now 11) to all wool covers for the new lo. Not only does the performance get rave reviews the sizing seems to be way more flexable so even tho the covers are individually expensive you can buy fewer total (if you can hold yourself back. ..)
You don't seem to need to wash them more than about every 2 weeks because the lanolin reacts with urine and chemically neutralizes it.
  • Another vote for Disana -- great quality for the price, as wool can get quite pricey.

I like the ones that I have made, once I found a pattern that I liked. I've knitted a couple, and might knit one more if I have time before DS's diaper days are done. Recently sewed one using an old sweater of DH's that accidentally got felted in the dryer, and that has worked well too.
  • I love woollybottoms for affordable wool.  I primarily use them at night.
