Cloth Diapering

We've Decided on Cloth!

DH and I finally decided on cloth and I'm so so excited! I'm excited about saving money, the environment, but mostly about saving our baby's skin. My SIL thinks we're crazy and is requesting a box of disposables when baby is at her house. She laughed so hard that she couldn't even hear me explain our choice to use cloth. This is our first negative encounter and I'm sort of bummed about it. But I still can't wait to pick out cute little covers.

Unfortunately she probably won't be your last negative encounter. My mother tells me on a regular basis that I'm nuts to be planning to cloth diaper our baby due in Feb. Congrats on your baby. Edited due to auto correct making me look like an idiot.

  • All of the people who had negative comments at first have changed their minds and have said that if they had their time back, they would have done cloth.

  • People do suck!

So far we have received only negative comments about our plans. My mother and sister were taking beats on how long we will last before switching to sposies when we visited last weekend. It hurts that they don't support our decision but my DH and I know we are doing what is best.
  • Boo to the negativity. And good for you for choosing cloth! I considered cloth with my 1st two babies, but was so overwhelmed by all the info and upfront cost that I chickened out and went with disposables.
I finally switched to cloth when my 3rd was 4 mo old, and it has been fantastic! I want to KICK myself for not doing cloth from the beginning!
  • Congrats on the best desicion of your life! ;)

  • Good decision! ;). I was nervous at first, but it's been awesome. I don't care what others think, especially anyone that won't be changing her dipe. Only me and my mother change diapers (my mom watches her while I work), and I wash them.

Take cloth to SIL's and she can buy disposables if it's that big of a deal. I bet she'll change her mind when she sees them though.

  • Congrats on the decision! I had to convince dh and my mom (who will be watching lo while I work)! And I just found out I may not have convinced her! I'm hoping when the lo arrives, she'll like it more. I find that when u speak hypothetically to people, they would be completely against it (especially when its something they arent used to) but when it's right in front of them and they see how it works, they'll be convinced that it may actually be a good idea!

  • When I told my brother we were going to use cloth, he said, "I give you two weeks."

Two years and three months later...

  • Two of my harshest critics have recanted after seeing how easy they are to use and take care of.  My sister tells me all the time, if she could do it again, she would go with cloth.

It used to really bother me and now I just say "eh to each their own"  How often is your baby going to be at SIL's house?  Maybe investing in a couple Grovia AI2 covers and a box of bio inserts would be worth it.

  • My DHs family is super supportive because his parents and aunt both did cloth (but they're amazed by the options today!).
However, my family thinks I'm crazy, and my cousin laughingly said 'no ones gonna touch that cloth-butted baby!' Hahah, yeah right, you can't get babies back from my family!

I had a few naysayers before M was born, now they don't care. It's actually annoying. I'm like, "look at this adorable baby butt!" And they're all like, "uh huh, so anyway, world peace..."

Yeah, turns out once baby is actually here, no one really even notices or cares what is on their booty.
