March 2015 Moms

Freezer meals

So in an effort to prepare for LO, I want to have a big cooking session and make a bunch of meals I can vacuum seal and store in the freezer for easy access. And having made this goal, I am realizing that I am woefully lacking in recipes that work for this purpose.

I'm planning on combing Pinterest, but I was wondering if any other March mamas do this sort of thing. Does anyone have any favorite make-ahead recipes or links to recipes that they want to share?

I haven't made frozen meals before and have no recipes, but i keep hearing about freezer meal workshops hosted by Pampered Chef that seem to be a hit... If you're into that sort of thing.

  • Lots of people are a bit funny with reheating any meat but I have never had a problem with anything I have reheated! I make things like lasagne, pies with pastry and also pies topped with mashed potato! It's also great making fresh sauces for pasta so all you have to do it cook pasta and not having to worry about preparing veggies!
  • Once a month meals is a great (though overwhelming) website for freezer meals.

  • I have about 25+ freezer meal recipes. I plan on doing this a little later, and not all at one time like I did before. It is overwhelming but I love seeing my freezer full of meals we make. More thank likely most meals we make are good for two meals, I make one for dinner and have enough left overs for lunch.

  • Ooh, good resources! I want to do this too, but I'm afraid we will end up not eating the freezer meals. It's not part of our regular routine, nor do we use our crockpot much. And my husband loves to cook. It relaxes him; if hate to steal that from him. I may prep a few meals, though.
  • Soup and chili! Let it cool completely and freeze in 1 quart freezer bags. Lay them flat to freeze and then they can be stacked side to side like books. They thaw quickly this way too.

Stuffed peppers, enchiladas, stuffed shells, lasagna, twice baked potatoes are my favorite freezer meals aside from soup.

  • @CoozieInMyPurse‌ my husband loves to cook too but when I make freezer lasagna, enchiladas and meatloaf, he also loves having a day off. It's also really nice if you have random company show up and don't have time to get to the store.

Thanks for the resources, ladies. I could use some new recipes!

  • I will definitely be doing this since we have a deep freeze to store it all in. I'm guessing I'll do a variety of soups, casseroles, pasta dishes and Mexican dishes.

  • I'm a big fan of freezing things that can just be dumped into a crock pot.  I didn't do a freezer stash with my first, so I don't know how user friendly it is to have to have something cook for hours.

  • I have a list of about 11 recipes, and I think we're going to get an extra freezer as well. I looked all over Pinterest for recipes that I like. I'm pretty picky about ingredients & lots of crockpot/freezer recipes are either too processed or unhealthy for me.

Can attach my shopping list (I don't do recipes) if you want.

We haven't tried them yet, but we did prepare a few meals this past weekend.  We're wanting to get into this too.  Someone recommended a while back (not sure if it was on this board or somewhere else) a book; Fix, Freeze, Feast.  We've made three of the recipes so far (but haven't cooked them yet).

That book is GREAT! I checked out like 3 freezer meal cookbooks & strongly preferred that one. (Easier recipes.)
