So we've had 3 weeks of Speech therapy now for eating age appropriate solids and we've had to start at the basics. Like we've been working on her holding a bottle before we transition to sippy cup. She won't pick up puffs and she definitely won't put anything in her mouth. Then if it's got texture she'll start gagging.

Therapist suggested having EI come back again and do another screen. This time she qualified for a full evaluation, so we'll see how that goes. They just came out Friday, so I'm waiting on the call to setup the full evaluation. We're hoping they'll eventually help with the cost of her therapy because she'll be going longer than our insurance covers.

So with all this, I have my aunt tell me yesterday that N is going to get it. That it is just going to click overnight! Then she asked me if she's around small children. I said she sees her one cousin on Sundays and she's like "well that's good. I believe children learn by watching others"

Really pissed me off.

I can relate a little with your feelings towards your aunt. I've gotten so frustrated with family and friends who seem to have become experts on my own kids regarding their therapies/dr appts and talk to me like I'm a hypochondriac. I just don't share info anymore. I'm tired of people telling me to rub coconut oil on my baby for his laryngomalacia/asthma and that I need to accept that it's normal for one twin to not be able to articulate like a singleton 3 year old.

Yeah, I told my mom I'm just not going to say anything anymore. Nobody understands.

We have laryngomalacia too and your kid just has to outgrow it, coconut oil isn't going to fix it. Again, people don't understand it, but just can hear how terrible it sounds.

We had our full EI evaluation today and she is 25% delayed in motor, 25% delayed in communication and 40% delayed in adaptive. So they will help with the cost of her therapy.

It's so frustrating. FWIW, DS has had a lot of similar issues as your little one and after working with the therapist for a few months he has improved a lot. It can be a long and frustrating road but you are awesome and it won't be like this forever. And ignore people who think they understand when they obviously don't.

Yeah that would infuriate me.

EI is coming out on Monday to help draw up her plan, which might start including occupational therapy in addition to the speech therapy.

I took my mom to speech therapy yesterday because mom doesn't fully understand. When we were leaving my therapist was telling her this is a real thing and how she's had 12 yr olds come in who are still on purees.

Tomorrow the speech therapist said we can try mashed potatoes, pecan pie filling and other pureed type textures at Thanksgiving dinner. I'm so excited! lol
