NCDR: Is the BM still good?

edited November 2014 in Cloth Diapering
Ok so at 10 am when I pulled out the pump, I realized that yesterday's pumped milk was still in there in the insulated bag. It's the basic square Madela one and it had an ice pack in the bottom. Was stored in the fridge during the day yesterday. The last pumped milk from 430 was put into the bag with the others, but taken directly home, no fridge time. The ice pack was not cold at 10am, and the milk was not cold, but slightly below room temp. :-(

So, did I just lose an entire day of milk?

I wouldn't trust it. Dump it; it's ok to cry.

It's fine if you freeze it now. Relax!

The 430 milk is no good, but the rest is probably ok.

    Sniff test.  If it smells fine, freeze or serve right away.
    This, if you question it, toss.

    I think breastmilk can sit on the counter for up to 8 hours.

    I tried giving my baby milk I wasn't sure about and he rejected it.

    ~~~ Quote Box Fail~~~
    I know fresh milk is good for 8 hrs, but it was in the fridge during the day, then in a cold pack for almost 18 hrs. :-\
    Mine has been fine overnight as well, but the ice pack still felt cold.
    I agree with this.  If you know what your milk normally tastes like, I'd say tasting it is an even better test.
    The not cold thing is what's bugging me about this.  I think I'd probably toss it.  Maybe try the taste/sniff thing, but if it seems even the tiniest bit off, toss it.
    Also, if you do sniff/taste and decided to try giving it to LO it might be better to give it fresh. I think sitting out this long would significantly shorten the freezer life.  So you might go to thaw it in a month and find ruined milk anyway.
    Sniff/taste test like everyone said.
    I know the conservative thing is to toss it, but I wouldn't waste that much milk.  Refrigerate and use as quickly as possible.  I wouldn't freeze it.  Also, sniff test before offering it.
    Sorry that happened! :(
    I would sniff test and of ok use it ASAP rather than freezing. I think it could go either way. Sorry :-(
    Thanks ladies. I threw them in the freezer and just now put them in the fridge. They don't seem to have a smell, but I am a little concerned that they weren't really cold when I pulled them out. I think I'll send it over for A tomorrow and if she doesn't drink it, then I'll just have MIL toss it.
    I'd dump it without question. It's not worth my baby getting sick.
