Does anyone do Zumba? How hard is it? I just joined a gym today and plan to start Monday. They have a Zumba class at 5:30. I'm overweight and pretty out of shape. Will I die (or look like a complete idiot) if I just jump in the first day?
everyone looks like an idiot on their first zumba class. Dont worry about how you look, think about what you are doing positively to help get into shape!
Seriously I was all over the place on my first time. it was all I could do not to kill someone by accident.
That's what I'm afraid of! I'm so bad at knowing if I should go left or right, etc. I guess I'll just have to take a deep breath and go. Thank you!
I've never done Zumba but I'm a fan of showing up early for classes and getting a spot in a back corner. Doesn't matter how you look as long as you're doing it though! Good luck!
PgAL welcome

@wellybug, you should join in now! It helps me be accountable and I hate to post up the "bad" I've done so I have been doing less.
I have never done Zumba but I am a hot mess when I try to do Taebo and other things you have to follow someone at a quick pace. And the old gym I went to had a huge glass wall so everyone in the gym could watch. wtf, that's a horrible design! lol
Let me know how you like Zumba, maybe I will buy it to do at home. Good luck!
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.
@wellybug If it makes you feel any better or more confident about going, there are always new people joining the classes at my gym. We all welcome them in and don't look at them any differently their first time. You gain respect and friends when you continue to come back!

If you have any background in dance it should be easy. But even if you don't, you'll catch on. It might take a few classes, but the music is great and it's a lot of fun.
I love Zumba! Don't worry no one will look at you if you mess up, we've all been in your position. Get to class a few minutes early and introduce yourself to the instructor and then stay in the back. I always do that when I join a new class and it makes me feel more comfortable!
IVF #1, Stimmed for 12 days, ER 8/22/14, 9 retrieved, 7M, 7F!! Freeze all due to fluid in uterus.
FET end of October 2014 cancelled due to fluid in uterus due to possible c-scar defect
Surgery scheduled 12/12/14 to fix possible isthmocele
3/26/15 transferred one 8 cell grade 4 embryo and one 6 cell grade 3 embryo = slow rising betas for 2+ weeks = ectopic MTX shot 4/29/15
Repeat c-scar surgery June 2015
2nd and last IVF cycle August 2015, stimmed for 12 days, 2 egg retrieved, both mature and both fertilized. Transferred both 8-cell embryos on Day 3, beta 9/5/15 = BFFN
I love Zumba. I started going when I was about 250 lbs and I had to modify some things. Now I'm down to 150-160 and I some times teach the class :-) This has been a progress thing over the last 3 years or so. I love it though. Great fun. The one thing I will say is don't judge it by just one class. Go at least 3-4 times. The reason is, it can take a while to learn certain routines and the more you're able to learn them the better workout you get. Also, push yourself to do one more thing in each class so you're getting a better workout each time.
Lastly, report back, I'm sure you'll love it and would love to hear about your experience. A few of the ladies on the Healthy Living thread like Zumba as well so you may want to pop in and say hi to them.

Andplusalso... I take Zumba at my work... The last three weeks there's been this 7ft tall guy (seriously he's like 7ft) and he sort of resembles gumby. He's been taking the class and standing in the very front center. I'm not sure I recommend that exactly because it scares me to go front/center when I'm just learning, but he's just going with it and trying to make it work. So, if he can do it - you totally can!

I love Zumba! It takes a few classes to get the hang of it, so everyone looks silly for a few classes. It is so fun though! We have people in my class ages 20-65 and probably from 100-300 pounds. It's fun for everyone!
