Sippy Cup + Milk..the endless fight

LO will not take milk (breast or cow's) from a sippy cup. He loves the ones we have and will drink water out of them. Once you put in milk, he takes a sip, let's it dribble down his face onto his clothes, then tosses the cup aside. I've read numerous articles and advice posts but am at a lost. What did you all do?

Right now, we've cut out the bottle cold turkey at daycare and are going to incorporate more yogurt and cheeses until he comes around. We also added a droplet of chocolate syrup (Flame away) as suggested by our pediatrician to make the milk more attractive, but I am worried he's not going to get the nutrition he needs.

What did you all do and need to know I'm not alone in this :)

  • P.S. He will drink WCM in his bottle.

  • I would keep letting him practice with water in the sippy... I swear this was my LO a few weeks ago and I was so perturbed about it, but he has gotten much better with accepting more than just water and has stopped just dribbling it out everywhere. Sometimes I spike it with a little Silk Vanilla Coconut milk to sweeten it up and if I let it warm just to room temp/ so it's not freezing cold, he seems to like it better.

I'm not saying my kid is great with milk in a sippy because his spitting is still unpredictable, but I am seeing improvement over time and with more exposure to it.

  • I feel like I'm in the same boat.. LO has been refusing Bottles at daycare (we sent new Formula type) and at home we're mixing old formula and WCM

He has been on similac sensitive and thats for up to 12 months, so in my rigid mind he can't have it any more... We sent Similac toddler to daycare and since then he's been refusing...

He also will not take milk in a sippy...

Sigh I'm at a loss too...

  • after all the research I did, I found this to be the most "helpful"

I know he'll come around eventually but it's not easy to watch him not eat/drink. I know the weekends are going to be a mess. He won't take the bottle or sippy cup if I'm around. That is another transition to deal with.
  • Same issue here. He will drink it from his bottle but if I try to give him a sippy cup he won't drink it because he is used to water and juice in his sippy cup.
  • Aside from what was shared in the randoms thread today and here, I wanted to say we also went through four different types of cups before G really caught on. A few he wasn't able to get milk out of and a few he just didn't care for. It was a little expensive but worth it. I also figure in a little while he will be used to the sippy and the cups will get used.
