DS woke up around 11 last night after a somewhat cranky and napless but otherwise routine day, and he sounded just awful, coughing and wheezing, labored breathing. He had no fever and went back down and slept all night, but I hardly slept at all, instead obsessing on the monitor about how ragged/wet/wheezy his breathing sounded. Took him in this morning convinced he had rsv or something else respiratory. Nope--he "just" has a double ear infection and a cold but doc said his lungs are totally clear and "his breathing will sound worse than it is" because he's congested.
DH was with him and not me so I didn't get to ask, but does anyone here have medical knowledge that can shed light on this? I'm just curious, not questioning the doctor at all. I've heard it before when he's had colds, where I report a horrific "death rattle" in his chest and the doc is like "nope, lungs sound clear!"
I'm incredibly grateful it's nothing more serious, I just wish I could understand medically so I can feel more calm at night rather than obsessing over whether he's getting enough oxygen. Why would a stuffy nose make it sound (to the untrained) like a chest cold?
