Where Are You Registering?

Good morning!

For all of the moms who are registering, this question is for you (and I'd love to hear from BTDT moms too)!!

DH and I are in a situation where half of the people we know live where we are and the rest of our friends and all family live across the country.

We are both penny pinchers and love love love a good deal!

I am debating on where to register in order to get the most bang for our buck.

Our choices are:
Babies R Us:: nationwide and people can physically walk into it to pick out a gift if they chose.
Buy Buy Baby:: nationwide but not on every corner. Can use 20% off coupons from Bed Bath and Beyond to save money.
Amazon::will sort the best prices for us and we can add items from any single website, however there isn't a physical store to go into.

What do you ladies think? One store? Two stores? Online?

Thanks in advance!

  • I'm registering at BRU and Amazon. I don't live close to any family so both of these places have the ship to home option and free shipping which really helps.

We're doing Amazon. FTM and not having a shower, but my family has requested we register somewhere, because they say they are going to get us a gift regardless of a shower and want to know what we need.
  • BBB and Target.  Lots of family on both sides are too far from BBB, and both stores have the option to let people buy online.

  • With DS I know I registered at target, and I feel like I had a registry at Walmart too but I don't remember.

This time I have a private registry on Amazon just to keep track of things I want.
  • I'm doing BRU & target. I love BBB but, its not close to either of our families & they aren't big on online shopping.

And I'd like to thank our resident red shirt representative for giving a few tips on target returns.

Since this is baby #2, we won't be having a baby shower, but I still registered at Target for the coupons!
ETA: I used Lucy's List as a guide and lurked a lot of Amazon reviews as I created my registry.

  • We also used baby list. We do have a Bbb registry but just liked baby list to it. I like that I can add from anywhere on the Internet.

  • With my first I registered at bru and amazon. And I have to say that I would not register at amazon again. They have a strict return policy of 30 days and I had so much trouble with them. I'll add here that in everyday life I do most my shopping with them so this is just about their registry, not as a company in general! I tried to return an item from a shower but the person had bought it long before the actual shower. How was I supposed to know? They didn't want to return it. Then they agreed but after I had sent it back only offered me half the money back (they forgot to tell me this first, and I had to pay return shipping because it was out of their return time window). It was super frustrating. I also received 2 Moses baskets and even though it was bought from my registry when I tried to return 1 they said I had to have the invoice number. When I explained it was a gift from my registry their solution was for me to call the person who gave it to me and have them send me their confirmation of purchase email! I wasn't going to do that so I ended up saving one as a shower gift for a friend but it was just so frustrating. Bru doesn't even require proof of purchase from their store. I took in a pack of onesies and told them I wasn't sure it was from their store and they took them anyway! Great customer service!!

Anyway, long rant over! It's just something to think about. Hope that's helpful! I'm not registering this time since it's #2.
  • With DS we registered at BRU and Amazon. There is no BBB in our area. Both of our registries were ultilzed by family and friends.

  • We did all the ones you listed. Buybuybaby accepts coupons from bed bath and beyond so that helps people save money. And it's good for people who want to touch things. Babies r us was mostly because it's the closest baby store. And again people can touch things.
Amazon is great especially if you get free shipping and have the amazon card (yay accumulating points. Haven't actually bought my niece a present in two years). Which we do. And it is good for people who live cross country.
Our target has jack shit for baby stuff.
Seriously the section had to be an after thought.
We made a baby website through the bump and listed the registries there and update pics and such.

  • I did all 3.  I set my delivery date on Amazon a little before I was due to deliver but after the shower.  Make sure you don't have repeat gifts on all three.  After my shower, I put all remaining items on my amazon registry, then used the discount they gave me on any remaining registry items to purchase what I still needed.  Each registry will usually give discounts for things you didn't get kind of like a wedding registry.  Use it to your advantage.

  • We will be registering at BRU and Target. They are the only stores near us and our families.
  • We are doing Target and BRU although I have a list on Amazon just in case it's easier for people/bookmarking things for myself. Is three ridiculous?

  • Primarily on Amazon. I may go with a brick and morter in town, BBB or Target, but I've already put most of my stuff on Amazon.
  • We were going to do BRU and Target but BRU had the same stuff as target and their completion stuff was SIGNIFICANTLY better!  Also, BRU will price match anything.  Our families are all far away and like pp said the free shipping and nationwide was important to us.

  • We did BRU, Amazon, and a local baby boutique. @crossfit704‌ I was nervous about doing 3 since it seemed ridiculous but each store had exclusive items we want. Plus: Amazon lets you add items from anywhere on the Internet.
  • I am only doing Amazon. Originally, I had done Amazon & Target, but I found myself putting stuff on Target just to have stuff there - all of the stuff I really needed I found on Amazon & with better pricing.

Most of my family/friends are good with online shopping, so I am hoping it will work out fine for everyone.

  • BRU and MyRegistry.com. I love myregistry, you can add things from practically any site online. We put a few things from pottery barn kids, some etsy things and some items from a few other sites too. It's helpful if you only like one or two things from a place and don't want to create an entire registry at a store.
  • BBB and Amazon (found a lot of great deals online).
  • @tunnel‌ the goody bag at BRU is garbage, only decent thing was a little pampers clutch with wipes, a diaper & a coupon. The best goody bag is target, tons of coupons, the pampers clutch, munchkin latch bottle & mam pacifier, I've pick up a few from different targets.
  • @tunnel‌ like pp said, BRU gift bag sucks. The BBB was really nice though. I registered online and went in a few weeks later and got the scanner to do some in store stuff. Just tell them you registered online. I think they actually send you an email telling you to go to the store to get your bag. BRU probably does the same.

  • First time around I did amazon and BRU. I wish I had done target. This time I am doing amazon and target but for my own use.
  • We were originally going to do Amazon because they have the cloth diapers but switched to BRU when we realized that they have cloth diapers online as well. Amazon can sometimes have better pricing but their prices fluctuate a lot, sometimes higher. BRU will price match and has a better return policy. Plus, as a person who doesn't like online shopping (1. You have to pay shipping even for small stuff and 2. I'm a procrastinator who liked to buy gifts the day before the party,) I wanted to give people the option to shop in a store if they want. I always get flustered when I'm shopping for someone and realize they're registered online only, like "oh crap, how many days do I have? When will it arrive? How much will it cost to have it sooner...?" I know I'm a weirdo for my generation.

  • This is a really helpful thread, thank you! So when you are making registries at places just for coupons, how does that work? You just don't publish them? Do you spend hours with the scan gun walking around? Sounds fascinating. What stores, other than Target, are worth doing that?

I'm mostly creating registry for the completion discount, ie, target & PBK. Diapers.com sent me a 15% off, which has brand restrictions. I do them online, set privacy as hidden, & will only go to the store to pickup my gift bag. From what I know, only BBB & target is worth it.

  • Another follow up question for the AMAZON and BABYLIST moms...

    How do you return items??

Also, for the mom who posted the problem with her Amazon return, here is what I found regarding 90 day return policy from DUE date, not date of purchase. Yay or Nay?

To receive FREE 90-Day Returns on your eligible Baby Store baby product(s):1. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return the eligible baby product(s) in new and unopened condition within 90 days from date of delivery for a full refund in accordance with the promotional terms and conditions below.2. Just visit our online Returns Center at www.amazon.com/returns and we will guide you through the process and even supply you with a prepaid return mailing label you can print out.3. Amazon will process your return and issue a full refund with no deduction for shipping after receiving your return of the new eligible baby product(s).
  • Amazon and United.com

We're space constrained so wanted very specific things and the united for cash to fly home. We're seriously trying to minimize the "stuff" where possible and the flights will get used for sure. Home for Christmas alone is $4300..... :/

And for the Amazon-ers... There's a button you can add to your browser that will add from other sites. For example, I wanted assessables (seriously check them out!!) on my list but they only sell direct, so I added that one external item to my Amazon list.

I skimmed these posts, so forgive me if someone already posted about this...I found a website called BabyList which lets you make your registry with things from multiple stores, even online. Any STMs ever done this before? Seems pretty awesome to me!
Edit: just saw two posts about it. Thanks!
  • If you register with Amazon, the completion discount is weird. It doesn't count towards everything on your registry. It has to be something from the "baby store" on Amazon. Not all baby items are listed there so don't all count. It also has to be directly sold from Amazon itself and not a third party.

I take date of delivery as in the date the gift is delivered to your door. Not when baby makes an appearance. That's how I would take it too.

ejz98ric02 The policy probably only applies to things in the "baby store" on Amazon so even if it was on your registry the 90 days may not apply. The item you want to return might have been found elsewhere on the site.
