BF & bottles

In the first few weeks after DD was born, DD was taking a bottle here & there. However for the past few weeks she's refused. I've tried Playtex Dropins & Tommy Tippee & she won't take either one. Has anyone had success with another brand with a relatively fussy baby? TIA!

Re: BF & bottles

  • When I got mastitis, I started to pump and gave my DS a bottle.  After trying Tomme Tippee and Playtex, I tried the Avent bottle and found that helped the most.  Good luck!

  • My LO has been on Avent NATURAL and loves them.
  • I use AVENT, but mostly because I got them from my baby shower, but I have heard good things about Dr. Browns (I think that is what they are called)
  • Another vote for the Avent Natural. I was EBF'ing with the exception of one bottle a night when we supplemented her. She just started daycare this week so she's been getting both BM and formula and hasn't had any issues. She didn't like the Medela bottles at all but other than that we haven't tried anything else.
  • My DD doesn't like bottles at all. We've had the most luck with the Lanisoh mOmma and somewhat with the Munchkin Latch.

  • We use The First Years Breastflow bottles. Theoretically the double nipple requires a comparable sucking action to what baby needs to do when breastfeeding, as opposed to most bottles. We've had good luck with them after no luck with the Tommee Tippee.

We are having this same issue -- I did not have this problem with my 18 month old, who basically would eat from breast or bottle, Bmilk or formula, interchangably, from about a week old... My newborn will not take a bottle, although she did during her first few weeks ,and now has started refusing.

We've tried them all (Avent, Tommy Tippee, LATCH, Medala, Dr. Browns), and I really don't actually think it is a bottle issue, I think she just only wants to breastfeed.  I can get her to take about an oz of breast milk from a bottle, but that's it, and it takes forever.  I am losing my mind, feeling like I'm the only person who can feed her.  Was not my experience with my oldest, where my DH was equally involved in all aspects.  Good luck -- if you find something that works, let me know.

Tips I've heard and have tried:
Make sure somebody other than you is giving the bottle.
Face her away from you -- make it unlike breastfeeding - even try it while shes' in her carseat or swing.
Play white noise to relax her

Hope that helps you more than it has helped me! :-)
