January 2014 Moms

DD is a bully!

Ok...well I use that term loosely.

So there is a girl one day older than DD at daycare and they play together all the time. We had them over yesterday (2nd time we have gotten together) for a playdate. Well, DD kept taking toys from this girl....friend would put a toy in her mouth, DD would take it. Over and over again.

I drop off DD this morning at daycare and tell the daycare teacher and teacher says Yes, she does that here too.

I feel horrible. I know she's only 10 months old, but I feel like I'm a bad mom. Any ideas on how to work on this? Can I even work on it at this age? More playdates so we can teach her over time not to rip toys from other kids? Thoughts????? HALPPP!

Re: DD is a bully!

  • J does the same thing. I verbally signal that it is not ok and ask for the toy back. they do the same thing at daycare.

  • I think it's just the age. Just verbal repetition take the toy and give it back to other child. "No, no james is playing with this right now" and hand over a new toy to distract her.

    Its a surprise! Team green!

  • So I figured. Thanks for the reassurance. We will try to be consistent in our approaches and trying to teach her how to share. Wanted to make sure I wasn't alone!

  • DD is also a bit of a bully. She is very rough in most of her interactions and I guess she can be really hard on the other kids at daycare. In particular, there is a boy a couple months younger but physically larger than her, that she is not the gentlest with. From what they say he's a pretty laid back baby and she just climbs all over him and does whatever she wants to him.

We have been trying to work on being gentle at home and not hitting us, the dog, or cat but not really sure what else to do.
