Sick days?

I've been taking sick days here and there for appts/morning sickness/insurance crap, but my question is...should I feel obligated to let the HR lady know what's up?

I work remotely either from home or on the road, so my boss doesn't even know I've taken any days off. I've just sent the HR girl a note. Usually I CC my boss so he knows, but I don't want any questions - think she'll keep a hush on it? My company doesn't require a reason to use your allotted days.

Re: Sick days?

  • I told my boss because I was afraid I was coming across as uninterested in work. I was always tired and calling out more than usual and I didn't want him to think anything was up!

  • I told my work because we get 88 pregnancy days on top of our sick days. They are unpaid but if I use them it's not a occurrence.

  • If you are able to do it under the radar then you don't need to, but if it's noticeable tell HR and tell her to keep it confidential. Cover your butt ;)

If you tell HR I'm pretty sure she is obligated to keep it to herself, being that it's private medical information. I'm a SAHM when I'm not taking pictures.... "um yeah, Brinley so I'm not feeling so well, I think I'm going to take the rest of the afternoon off" lol if only...
This is not true where I work. My HR lady has a fiduciary duty to the owners so she tells them everything.

This is what I'm worried about! I am a bit concerned about how I'll do my job (travel usually 50-75%), plus what happens to my territory during maternity leave (I'm a sales rep). I feel like with info that I'll be taking time off again next year, it might make me vulnerable for any year end "re-organizations"...on the other hand, I stayed home for well over a month this summer when I had mono, and it was no issue.

I know a few ladies that managed a sales career while raising kids, so I'm sure there is a way! I don't need the money exactly, mostly just benefits because my husband is self employed.
