Elevated white blood cell count?

So I had to get some bloodwork done for a routine physical. My doc just called and said my WBC was elevated. I asked what it was and she said 10.8. She wants me to go back for repeat labs next week.

Dr. Google said "normal" for first tri is under 13.5.

Anyone have experience with this? Or what it could mean in regards to my health/pregnancy? I don't want to go against my doctor, but I feel like my WBC is not really high.

  • High WBC is normal during pregnancy. Not entirely sure why, but be glad since you really can't take anything if you get sick!

  • That doesn't really sound high to me. Nothing wrong with your doctor following up but I wouldn't be worried
  • That's really not a high WBC count at all. The normal range is 4.5 - 10, depending on the lab. You may just be fighting off a viral infection of some sort. I wouldn't worry about it at all!

  • Thanks guys, I'm glad I asked what the actual number is. No harm going in for repeat b/w, but I won't worry about it.
