February 2015 Moms

IF ladies!!!

Quick question, did you have left over meds and if so what did you do with them.  DH is fed up with the leftover meds and wants them gone, Can I just take it to my REs office?

I contacted the OOP Meds from TB and was able to donate my leftover stems, but it is taking longer than I thought it would to get rid of the rest.

I developed OHSS and since they predicted it before I used my Ovidrel Trigger, I triggered instead with Lupron.  I don't think I can do anything with the Lupron since it's been used but the Ovidrel has been in my fridge ever since.

Also my fresh cycle was canceled so we did a FET, so my RE switched my progesterone from suppositories to injects, so I have a ton of Progesterone left.

Re: IF ladies!!!

  • Yep you can take them to you RE office. Or if the OOP meds cant get rid of them fast enough I would consider PM'ing anyone you know directly who might still need them.

  • My RE said as long as they weren't used, opened or expired they would take them. I need to drop mine off too!
    Pregnancy Ticker
    Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • Has anyone's RE offered them free, donated meds? I was given a packet with all sorts of info regarding financing, but nothing and no one mentioned the RE's office directly giving meds. However, I did have IF insurance, so maybe it is a hushhush thing to those in need. I would be grateful but honestly a little wary of getting meds that another patient had "returned."

I only had Menopur left over from this cycle and gave it back to the RE around 20 weeks.

  • @ConstanceGoodspeed‌ - I was given donated meds. I wasn't responding like they hoped and they needed to up some of my meds. I didn't have enough to last me at the increased dosage until more arrived and they gave me enough to get by and a little extra. I fully trusted my RE as my results directly affect him so I didn't even question.

  • I too used donated meds from my RE when my meds were late or I was short. I took them all of my leftovers. They told me they would dispose of what they couldn't use. I donated progesterone suppositories to my sister who was doing iui's at the time.

  • I was so grateful for donated meds when I ended up stim'ing for 5 days longer than anticipated. It had to be at least $1000 worth. I also asked for extra samples of the expensive Prenatals w/ DHA. A nurse gave me 5 months worth!
  • I asked my RE about receiving donated meds, as we were completely OOP for this FET. He said that they used to do it but don't anymore because it's not really legal (?). Last time, I ended up discarding all of my extra meds because my refrigerator's thermostat broke and froze everything. I didn't know if the meds were still okay and didn't want to take the chance. This time, I had very little progesterone left and some estradiol left which is so cheap it's not worth doing anything with.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  • I know they also use the donated meds to do the injection classes. Most times these are expired meds though.
