Amber teething necklace

I hope this hasn't been posted too recently. I know we talked about them a while back but this was before most of our LOs were teething (I think!).
Anyway, does anyone use one now and like it? Do you have a brand you recommend?
Has anyone tried one and noticed no difference?
I've been reluctant to try one but my DD is in pain and I'm considering getting one and would like other's opinions on them now (if you're using one or not).

Re: Amber teething necklace

  • I got one and didn't love it. It didn't seem to help much and it gave me anxiety about him having something around his neck. If you get one I read that the lighter color ones work best! I got a darker one so maybe that was the issue, I didn't realize there was a color issue until I did more research.

I've never heard of the tablets. I'll check them out.

@chichi589‌ that's why I've been holding off on getting one. The thought of something around my daughter's neck scares me.

    Edit: spelling
  • We use(d) necklaces with both our boys from around 3 months.  DS1 has a full set of teeth (including 2 year molars) and never had a fussy or drooly day. He has also never bit a bead off, choked on it, or strangled himself with his necklace.  He asks for it if we take it off for something and don't put it back on. We rarely take them off though, only a few times when we've been swimming and I don't want chlorine to get caught in the beads.
DS2 has no teeth but is pleasant.  I don't know if it was the necklace with my older son, but I go with the "doesn't hurt to try it" technique to these things.   I'm actually more hesitant about giving them medicine that I can't immediately remove from the equation if it seems like it is hurting more than helping.

Ours are mixed amber from Inspired by Finn.

  • I'm not convinced they're effective but I am convinced they're safe. My daughter wore one starting at two months until about two.

  • Health Canada advises against them. I'm very paranoid about anything around my kids' necks and I don't believe they work. Neither of my kids have worn them and teething has so far been fine. I think the teething experience depends on the child, not a necklace.
  • I have a bracelet and B wears it on her ankle only when she is wearing foot-in bottoms at home now. She got the bracelet and a sock off the other day at daycare and another little one picked it up :-(
  • IMHO all of "but my baby never choked" feedback doesn't count for the one baby who actually does.

  • We have one that DS1 used and I don't know that I thought it was a miracle cure, but it seemed to help a little bit. As for the safety of them, the necklace we have it designed to break if a small amount of pressure is placed on it so that it won't strangle them. Also the beads are individually knotted onto the string so that if it breaks it doesn't pose a huge choking hazard.

I got mine from a place called amberartisans.com and they had a ton of info on how they make theirs to be safe and effective. They also make bracelets if you are really worried about something around their neck. When we had DS wear his at night I usually just wrapped the necklace around his ankle a few times and then put him into footed jammies. That way there was no worry about him wearing it.
