FTM-Seeking advice on what to have infant sleep in while staying in my room

There are so many products out there for baby while s/he stays in room with mommy to make breastfeeding easier. What route to go?! Bassinet, co-sleeper, Moses basket, pack and play with top adaption? I would love to hear what worked well for you!

DD used a pack n play, we bought a rock n play for this LO. I wanted something that would be super easy to move around the house.

  • We used a bassinet with DS and will use a bassinet with this LO.

  • We had a bassinet for DS that sat right next to my side of the bed and it worked well. The only problem was having to bend over to pick him up. We only used it for the first 8 weeks before moving him into a crib. This time I think we're just going to use the pack n play right next to the bed. It's a little higher up and works just as well.

  • We had a bassinet that we got for free. That's always a compelling factor for me. A pack and play with bassinet attachment would also work well. It was nice to not have to bend over super far to look at him or pick him up.
  • We used a bassinet.  With the stand, it worked out to be level with our bed frame.  DS was in that until about 3 months.
  • We were going to use a PnP but now we are going to use the RnP.

  • Bassinet for our room. We have a pack n play to put downstairs so that I have somewhere safe to put her down without trekking up the stairs.

  • We used the Arm's reach co-sleeper with DD.  It worked out pretty well, especially for middle of the night nursings.

  • We used a pack n play for the twins which was great cause they could be together but not squished. They lasted about 4 months before I felt that there wasn't enough room for both of them and moved them to their own cribs. Space & money wise I'd go PNP cause baby can stay in there for a while and you can still use it until they're older for playtime or naps. But the RNP seems a lot easier to move around. Like if you're in the kitchen and don't want a sleeping baby too far you can just set up in the living room and have an eye on them. I want to get a RNP this time around just so I can take it with me easily.

We are using the Rock N Play and the Pack N Play with the bassinet attachment. We plan to have LO room in with us for about 6 months or until it's no longer conducive to happy family life.

ETA: we used primarily the RnP with DS and it worked great!

  • We're planning on using a rock and play for the first couple months. I like it because it's not huge, easy to fold up, and can be moved from room to room, put in the car, etc. I'm going to try to get baby to nap in his crib, though, so he gradually gets used to it and won't put us through a horrific transition.
  • We definitely used the RnP a ton with my son. I was one that said it was the best baby purchase we ever made. The problem was, in the end, my son ended up with a helmet. I know the RnP isn't 100% to blame, he had several factors that contributed. We did find out that sleeping too much in the RnP was "one" contributing factor. They are better off flat if they will sleep that way. This time I got one of the RnP bassinet type things. It looks like a RnP but is a little larger, and is completely flat with no incline. We got it at a consignemnt store for $20, so I figure it is worth a shot.

  • Oh and it's cheaper in purple if you want the girlier look. Still more expensive than just getting a bassinet but look at the features!

  • I'm a FTM so no experience yet but what were planning is a bassinet upstairs next to our bed n a pack n play downstairs in the living room for napping.. fx that works for us :-) gl

I am seriously wanting this. It is everything you could possibly need in one little package.

We got a version of that when we had DD. I really liked it. We didn't use it in our room, but it was super useful on the 1st floor of our 2-story house.

DD slept in our room in an arms reach co-sleeper bassinet. We originally had a different bassinet, but I hated it, and we replaced it with the arms reach vue. I loved it because I could reach into it without getting up and could also see DD through the mesh sides. We thought she would sleep in a RnP, but she didn't like it. Actually, she slept on us for two weeks, and then in a swing, and then in the arms reach co-sleeper until she was almost 6 months old.

  • We used a rock n play for DS, but this time we are going to try a co sleeper crib and have the RNP as a back up.

  • We used a pack n play which had the higher setting and a change table attached to it and we will be doing the same for this little LO because DS is still in the crib for the time being!
  • This time around we are doing a pack in play and using the bassinet part of it next to our bed. Last time I did a bassinet that we borrowed. We used the bassinet for about 3 months last time before DS just about knocked it over when he starting rolling over in it. Luckily I was in the room to notice it before it fell.
  • We use an RnP .... started out trying to use the PnP when I had DS but he refused to lay flat, so RnP was a lifesaver.

I'd say you can try the PnP if you want, it's a great gadget because it will grow with your kid and has other uses... whereas a bassinet and cosleeper don't really.  Or RnP if you want something that takes up less space and is extremely portable or if you find that your baby sleeps better with a bit of an incline.

I have a PnP too, it doesnt have to be one or the other... I just don't use it until the kid is older (to play in, etc)

  • I received a PnP as a gift but wondered if that would suffice. My second thought was co sleeper, but would rather not purchase if PnP will be just as good. But wanted to hear what worked well for you ladies.
  • With DD I used the PnP with bassinet sleeper, which worked well when I had a bedroom big enough for it.. this time around we will be trying the RnP, pretty much simply because we have a shortage of space in our bedroom of our new house :) good luck!
  • If you have the space for it I would put the crib in your room. I like the PnP with the bassinet, but my son outgrew the bassinet by weight very early on. It wasn't great putting him at the bottom of the PnP. The RnP is nice, lasted longer than the PnP for us, but some babies have more difficulty transitioning to sleeping flat and I have heard that the angle can increase the chance of developing a flat head. It is very convenient though and if your child has reflux it can really help. If you want to play it on the safe side I have read that you should look for a product that complies with the ASTM standard. If they comply they will have a seal from the Juvenile Products Manufacturer's Association.
