Stained wood

For starters I'm a bit of a worrier, but this has me really scared. My husband and I have been building a table. We started before we found out I was pregnant. Anyways, we were staining the table inside Saturday morning. I helped stain a little but hadn't been feelin to well all week so my energy was low. We had the windows open. He went out for a bit and I fell asleep on the couch for a couple hours. When I woke up I panicked as it smelled really bad. We moved the table outside and the smell went away. I am very nervouse because I was exposed to the vapors ( the stain had voc's). I threw up that night and the next day. I had been really sick a week ( gagging but never throwing up until that night). Me so scared it wasn't a coincidence and I did real harm. I'm still sick and calling the dr. today. I am assuming it is really bad m/s because it started before the staining. Would you be worried? I obviously wouldn't do this again. I am so scared I may have hurt my baby. I am 7 week pregnant today.

  • You'll be fine.

  • I would be worried if your job required you to be around these chemicals every day, all day. A one-time exposure is unlikely to do any harm.

  • Thank you all for your feedback. Never thought I would worry so much. It's my first pregnancy and I just keep worrying.
  • What everyone else said. ;)
  • I'm sure you are fine :) my job can have me exposed to all sorts of pesticides and solvents including vocs, and svocs. It has to be long term and repeated exposure to cause harm. I would recommend staying away for now, the smells are likely making you sick, but don't stress about baby.
  • Use a respirator mask and you can do these projects just fine.
  • I think you will be fine. Just don't do this too often!!

  • I feel you! Lol. We moved into our new house not even 2 weeks after we found out we were expecting. And by new I mean brand new house we have been building all summer. The smells drive me nuts! And of course I was painting and varnishing during the pregnancy before I knew. Now just trying to not get sick off the fumes that never seem to disappear :( I am hoping the fumes are more of a concern due to my extra strong sniffer then me actually inhaling too much!
