STM: breast pumps

So with my first I bought a simplisse pump that was absolutely worthless. I ended up renting the medical grade pump for pretty cheap per month but I think I want to just buy a good one this time and skip the rental. Any suggestions for pumps that worked well for you? Tia

    Loved my medela pump in style. I used it every 3 - 5 hours for 11.5 months

    Now many insurances cover breast pumps but they only give you a few options.  So I would look into that first.  Then, I would go with a medela double electric breast pump.  I have the PIS and I really like it.  I never used a medical grade pump though so I don't know how to compare.  From what I hear nothing is like the medical grade.

    I have the Medela Swing and love it, but it's a single pump. If you're going to be pumping more than once a day, I'd recommend a Medela double pump.

    Check your insurance to see what they cover. But I have used the medela freestyle and ameda purely yours. Both worked well for me.

    You should definitely check wit your insurance company. Mine covered my pump 100%. I have the Ameda Purely Yours. It worked just fine.

    I have the medela PISA and loved it. I also have a medela manual that I liked having for road trips or quick pumping if we had company or something.

    I got mine free from the hospital through my insurance. It is a Hygeia EnJoye. It's hospital grade. Worked great for an entire year. But, I would've taken anything they gave me. Free from insurance is the way to go if you can.

    Don't waste money on a bra. If you have an old sports bra just cut holes in the nipples and you have an instant hands free pumping bra.

    Another vote for the Medela PISA. And the simple wishes pump bra was the best thing I purchased - sports bras work but I don't have time to be fully undressing at work (this one I just pulled my shirt up and zipped over my nursing bra while pumping).

    Ameda Purely Yours.

    I used to work in L&D and that was the top recommended pump by our lactation consultant. You can get it pretty cheap on amazon especially if you don't want the carrying bag. I also liked that it's a closed system pump so the milk never goes into the actual pump. Worked well for me.

    I rented a symphony from the hospital for a year and used the PISA for a few months. I would definitely go medela. I got an Ameda Purely Yours free from my insurance and it was horrible. Check with your insurance because they may cover the Medela or similar.

    Don't stress about it yet. Second tri is a great time to research all baby things. You will have more energy and less sickness (hopefully). You may even feel ansy and want something to do. I would suggest buying Baby Bargains as one of the first things to do (or asking for it for Christmas). It lists out all things you need for baby and suggests various versions based on your price point.

    Definitely check with your insurance. I never got a pump when DD was born and as a result, shes 12m and has never had a bottle. I stayed home with her the firast 10 months, and when I returned to work, it was tough because she wouldnt take a bottle and hated BM in her sippy. This time, my insurance is sending me a Medela pump! Life saver! The cheap pumps really aren't worth it, so have your insurance give you one! They provide the good ones!

    My insurance sent me a medela breast pump 100% free, i love it...but they couldnt order until i had myy dd...so i got it a week after she was born...i used the hand pump the hospital gave me when if i needed to pump during that week, if she wasnt on the breast.

    Definitely check your insurance or purchase through you FSA (if you have one). Fortunately, when I had my DS I had to purchase mine out of pocket. We bought the Medela Freestyle (I think)...double pump and it worked very well....I highly recommend it.

    @lauraneedscoffee - That looks right. The version I used was from like 2010 so mine is a little different. But that just looks like the most recent one (I think they publish a new one every year so they can keep up to date on all the latest products/trends).

    My Medela PISA was great for on the go, but nothing compared to my hospital rented pump, even though it was Medela as well!
    First came love, then came marriage - Oct 31, 09
    Then came a miscarriage March '11
    Then came a baby in the baby carriage May 16, 12

    Waiting on our second little peanut!

    Thanks ladies! I basically just wanted to know the majority liked medela because that's what I hear is most dependable. I have a manual pump but will be getting an automatic and definitely plan on checking with my insurance. Also the bras are a life safer I have a few from last time. I'm a baby stuff junkie I research and plan relentlessly to try and find the best stuff I can. Thx everyone !
