Pregnant after 35

Nursery photos, anyone?

Hey all - hope everyone is doing well! I was so excited to finally spend some time on the nursery last weekend!  Our furniture just came in last week too and looking forward to getting everything set up before I (may) become too tired to help.

Anyone else working on their nurseries? Please share photos!

I started collecting baby stuff (clothes, toys, etc.) years ago and have always wanted to do a safari/jungle/baby animal theme, so I bought this cute little border for the baby's room years ago and I was excited to finally put it up.

Hopefully we'll be putting together the crib this weekend! :)

Here's the room so far:

  • Yep, ours will be sharing a room with us too for sometime. Then eventually move into youngest DD's room. Unless of course we decide to sell after the first of the year and find a bigger house. Who knows!

  • Love the jungle border!
  • Everything looks great, @mdogan29‌ ! The gray furniture makes me like the walls even better, they really compliment each other. Nice work!

I had so much fun decorating DD's nursery. For #2 I'm not sure where s/he will sleep after moving out of our room. We have two bedrooms on the second floor and one on the main, so likely we'll have both kids in one room for a while. I can't wrap my head around having a kid on another floor! I don't know why but it scares me.

  • We have our house listed right now but I don't think it's going to sell. We had it listed last spring and got zero showings!! It was listed for maybe 5-6 months.  We pulled it and planned on waiting another 3 years until our youngest starts kindergarten but then found out that we're expecting a third and we have a 3 bedroom split level house so it's pretty tight upstairs!  So we found an awesome realtor.. and still nothing.  I think the price is too high but we owe too much to move it down much sooo here we sit!

We remodeled our basement into a playroom last year so it's new carpet.. new paint.. huge flat screen tv.. etc.  We decided that if the house doesn't sell.. we'll move our master bedroom to the playroom which would actually make kind of a nice master suite and then move our daughter into our old room and the baby into her old room.  That's the plan for now!!  But so far we haven't done anything!  I know the baby will be with us for the first few months anyways so I'm not really rushed to do anything right now being that I'm just under 13 weeks.  :)

You room is adorable.. especially with the sleeping daddy in the chair. lol  That's usually how it goes.. one of the parents passed out in the rocker. lol

  • Thanks everyone! :)@chucktgirl - the room is 10x13, I don't think it'll seem very big once we get the other 2 pieces in (long dresser and tall dresser), I think it just looks bigger b/c I was standing in the doorway. The crib is even bigger than I thought it would be!  We're going to have the baby sleep in the room w/ us too with a co-sleeper for the first few weeks/months, we'll see how it goes, but maybe during the day I'll put him in his crib while I work? Not sure how it'll work out yet! The crib is convertible to a toddler bed then full-size bed, so hopefully he'll be able to use the furniture during his whole childhood. @hikerlady - I feel like this is the only room I could paint like this! With the doors being so white, I think it balances really well. I chose the colors from the border and I still think 'wow' every time I walk into the room. You should do it! :)

  • Looks great! I managed to get the nursery painted, with help from family, and then my SIL moved in over a month ago. Hopefully she'll just be in there a couple more weeks so I can get things set up. I just keep reminding myself that LO isn't really going to use the room for the first couple months at least, since she'll be in a cosleeper in our room.

  • Thanks everyone!! :) Where are your photos?? I want to see... :)

    @ewenner - got the furniture @ BabiesRUs, here's a link: https://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kw=baby%20cache%20vienna%20ash&keywords=baby%20cache%20vienna%20ash&origkw=baby+cache+vienna+ash&fg=Category&ff=Taxonomy&fv=2255957&fd=Baby

We bought the 3 pieces together while they were having a 20% off deal on nursery furniture, opened a ToysRUs credit card and saved another % and then did the 12mo financing. They offer coupons regularly!

We got the glider and ottoman there too, we had to do a special order to get the color to match the rest of the stuff. BRU has a program when you put stuff on a registry, whatever anyone buys (including you), at the end, a % of that goes into an eGift card that they send you after the baby is born.  Here's more info on that for anyone who's interested: https://www.babiesrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=22729406 :)

We need to get a stroller next, here's their current coupon sheet: https://trus.imageg.net/graphics/media/trus/DP120514A_BASE_V1_cpns.pdf // ($50 gift card when you buy Chicco, that would work for the stroller we want)

  • My husband is wary about buying a crib from Target. I'm trying to explain to him that all cribs have to meet certain federal guidelines. He thinks we should buy a "sturdier" and more expensive crib. Thoughts?
  • marijaa333marijaa333 member
    edited December 2014
As a large distributor, Target absolutely conforms to standards.  It would be a silly business risk for them to take if they didn't - no one would ever buy another crib at Target, if they were found to be in breach of safety regulations.

Perhaps your husband could do some reading on recent standards and recalls and see for himself that the models you're considering are ok:

  • Thank you!
  • @Erinka‌ MH said the same thing when I said it was on sale for $100. I told him Baby Bargains book rated the crib highly then he was OK lol.
