chiropractor

I am 5w4d and i have a slipped or bulging disc in my lower back. I normally go to a chiropractor for this. This is a rainbow baby and am making sure that I take things really easy. Is the chiropractor safe at this stage? * i will be checking with my doctor tomorrow *

Re: chiropractor

  • If you work with somebody experienced than for sure. My acupuncturist does some chiropractic moves on me sometimes, but in general she keeps repeating that she can't do much when it comes to various techniques because of the baby.

  • I wouldn't do anything without doctors approval AND finding a chiropractor that has EXTENSIVE experience in pregnancy.  I too play things super safe.

  • I am hoping that I can find something for relief! This happened on Thursday and I can still hardly move! Makes having a toddler difficult!

  • I've had a really messed up back for the last 2 weeks. I found a chiro trained in The Webster Techique which is special certification for pregnancy. He made the back pain worse though and I went to acupuncture the next day and it alleviated SO much of the pain! Good luck!

  • I saw my osteopath at 2 weeks, didn't know I was pregnant and then at 8 weeks. She treats me regularly so wasn't concerned I was pregnant as she know what my body usually feels like. She said they use different techniques and she kept away from my pelvis. I'd just make sure the Chiropractor has lots of experience with pregnant women and is happy to treat you in the 1st trimester. Checking with your doctor is also a good idea.
  • I have a feeling my answer will be a no. I have lumbar disc disease and the problem area is my lower back. I already have 2 missing discs. Thankfully my hubby can work from home and we are going to my in laws for thanksgiving weekend.. that means lots of help with my little one!

  • A lot of manipulation techniques are contraindicated for pregnant women. I'd ask around for a good physical therapist that can treat you with more conservative methods and assist in improving your lumbar stabilization. As the baby grows and your ligaments become more lax, your body is going to need that additional help. Learning some exercises, positions of relief and helpful stretches can really make a huge impact on your comfort level. Good luck!
