NCDR leaving baby alone....

Alright mammas. I have a lovely little 8 month old. We are staying at a hotel tonight and my husband's brother and his wife (who don't have kids) are staying with us in our room. They were going to go to the pool tonight and I was putting DS to bed. My sister in law said "don't most people just leave them in the room and just check on them every once in a while?" I was surprised because that wouldn't even come In to my mind as an option. I want to know what you ladies think.

Edit: spelling is hard

What?! Why would I leave my baby sleeping in a hotel room alone?

  • Oh thank God! She made me feel like I was the weird one for not making that an option.

  • Not a chance!
  • That's a negative Ghost Rider.
  • That's what I said... "Well I don't have a monitor or anything" and she was so surprised. Apparently she has a lot of growing (wiseing) up before having children.

  • I mean, that's easy to say, but most people do. And it turns out that I parent much differently than I thought I would.

  • Wtf... My kid is almost 7 and before I was prego I turned on a baby monitor just to be drinking wine on the back patio; because I wasn't in the house with him. Leave him in a hotel room by himself... He'll no. Yes I am slightly over protective.

Maybe she will be blessed with some maternal instincts, once she is a mother.

  • At home or a friend's house yes, I'd probably leave the baby assuming we had a monitor, but at a hotel HELL NO!!! There are too many people who can gain access to your room while you are away. While most probably wouldn't do anything, there are messed up people who might.
  • Um no. That's so not safe. Next door with a monitor - sure but no farther.

  • Thanks ladies. I'm glad you're all on the smart side here! I talked with my DH this morning about it and he totally agreed with me. Thank God!

I have left my baby in my room and gone to my parents room next door, with a baby monitor. A different floor? Hell no.
I've done this - put her to sleep in a pack n play with the video monitor on, and gone to my cousin's room next door to play board games. We could see and hear on the monitor the whole time. If I couldn't at least hear on the monitor, no way I would do that! Maybe if I wanted to go grab something from a vending machine down the hall for a minute, but not for any prolonged period of time!

  • Isn't that what happened to the little girl somewhere in Europe? Her parents put her to sleep, and went downstairs to the bar. The little girl was kidnapped and still hasn't been found. I think her name was maddie? No way in hell!

  • I know people do this. But no.
