There is a local baby store that seems to get greatly recommended by everyone around here but that I had nothing but bad experiences with. Let me explain.
Before Liev was born, we went there to get a few things. The aisles were cramped, there was junk everywhere and it was nearly impossible to find anyone to help us (even though that is supposed to their strongest suit, knowledgeable staff). We ended up buying a Carters crib bumper and nothing else. I wasn't impressed.
About two weeks later when we tried to put the bumper in the crib we realized it was defective. I had thrown away the receipt because I didn't think I'd be returning it or exchanging it. We drove back up there (about 40 minutes away) and when we got there we were told they couldn't do anything. Their excuse was we didn't have a reciept. The package still had their sticker and I didn't want a receipt, I just wanted an exchange. It was a bumper for crying out loud, not some hundred dollar piece of baby gear.
After MUCH convincing, the best they could do is haver their "Carter's person" contact Carters to see if THEY could exchange. The customer service person took our number so the Carter's person would call us back. I am still waiting for that call. Needless to say, I was fvcking pissed and vowed to never go back.
Fast forward to today. I had been desperately looking for a base for our carseat and nowhere around here had it. I knew this store would have it so, against my better judgment, we went up there. They have moved to a new location and the store looks much better and a let less crowded.
Everything was going fine, we even found people to help us straight away (they actually came to us). I really thought it was going to go great this time. WRONG.
It came to be Liev's feeding time and I went into the bathroom to get warm water from the tap. Well, they don't have hot water, it's shut off. On the way there, I saw their "Nursing Station" and it was nothing more than two dining chairs in a corner of the restroom with a shower curtain in front. WTF???? But that's neither here nor there in this case.
Having found no hot water, I asked the first associate I saw if they could either find warm water for me or maybe warm up some in a microwave. She said no, that she couldn't. I asked her if there someone else that could and she no because they weren't allowed but that I could talk to the manager and see.
I was pretty pissed by this point so I went up to Customer Service. I asked again and was given the same story and I was told the reason they are not allowed to warm people's bottles up is for liability issues. Well idiot, I am not going to give my baby the bottle without testing the temperature first! She assured me the restroom I had just been to had hot water. Again, NO, I checked before inconveniencing your dumb ass. I had her call the manager who said no and that there was another restroom that had hot water.
All this went down as my child screamed because he was so hungry yet no one seemed to give a crap. I finally went into that restroom and got warm water and made the bottle.
Now, I understand their concern and that they don't want to get sued if a baby gets burned for for being a BABY store, their facitlies are downright shitty. Hey, let's put nursing mothers in the restroom and make it next to impossible for bottle feeders to make a warm bottle!
Are they so freaking stingy that need to cut off the hot water???? According to the employees, not even employee restrooms have hot water.
So, needless to say, I
have had it with them and their crappy customer service. We were also
prepared to buy a second stroller but figured we wouldn't give them the
benefit of our patronage (although we DID get the base) and left. I am fuming!
Re: Baby store rant/vent
That sucks. I'm sorry.
If it's Baby Love then I agree, I was totally unimpressed with the store and the (lack of) service!!!
My pedi office always warms up bottles for me. Some people lack common sense.
Nadia only takes warm bottles so I feel your pain!
I started traveling with hot water so I could make her a warm bottle wherever we are. I am always to worried I won't be able to get hot water if I am away from home...
I have. He was exclusively breastfed until last month when he finally decided to start taking bottles. He refused anything that wasn't warm, even room temperature. I wish he'd take room temp!
