Hi! I'm a 24 year old first time mom who is very interested in cloth diapering. I love the idea of saving money this way! I have had experience in cloth diapers with liner inserts at the childcare facility I used to work at, but that's obviously not the whole story. I was curious about the prefolded cloth diapers and using a diaper cover over it. It seems really cheap compared to other methods, but I'm not sure about the mechanics of it. Do you use the prefold like a liner? Do you wrap it around baby like a diaper and then put a cover on? I'm so confused! :-S

It's painful how newb-y and pathetic I must sound haha! Teach me your ways cloth diapering gurus!!!

  • Hi :) ^ they pretty much summed it up, and please ask any questions you have!

  • As a newborn, you'd want to fold and fasten the prefolds around baby, otherwise poop gets everywhere. Once they're older, maybe 4+ months, you can just fold in thirds and lay in a cover.

  • I'm still pretty new to CD but I'm one of the outliers who didn't like prefolds on my newborn. I much prefer a flat folded in mini kite fold secured with a snappi, and workhorse fitteds. For an economical choice I'd pick flats, and try to find some fitteds pre-loved.

I do plan to give prefolds another chance in a bigger size once poo frequency calms down.
