Roselynn's Birth Story-it was a doozy!

Well here we go!

I had been timing contractions on and off since Friday (11/14) and by Sunday they started getting stronger. My OB told me to go with the 5-1-1 rule and that when I was having them for real "I would know." Ok great. I felt good that this was what I needed to look out for and once it started happening at 5-1-1 it was go time! (or so I thought).

Contractions were on and off all weekend..some got down to 5:50 apart and then would go back to 7. What the hell I thought?! Why?? Well all this time I was still having pain when they would come, but by Sunday the pain was more intense, BUT contractions were only 7-10min apart. I spent yet another night awake while my DH slept bc every time they would come there was pain but once again, not close enough to 5-1-1 so I just sucked it up and kept going. I took hot showers, walked around, got on all fours on my yoga mat..you name it. Then, at 2am the contractions just fizzled..they were now 10min apart! What the hell I thought?! Well at 5am I went to wipe and had fresh red blood on the TP. I looked it up and it said it was a sign your cervix was open. I then called my doctor and told her what I was experiencing and she said "it doesn't sound like real labor bc contractions don't just stop. The blood is normal. I don't think it's the real thing but you are welcome to come in and get checked at the hospital." I actually had my 39w appt that morning at 11:30 so I was thinking of just going into my appt. well, by 6am the pain was way more intense but the contractions were only timing at 8min. My hubby said let's just go in and see what's going on. We grabbed the bags and hopped in the car at 6:30am and as soon as we were in the car, the contractions were coming at 3-4min apart! We got to triage and they found out I was 4.5cm dialated!! THATS what all the pain was!! So I went on to be admitted and got to the room (meanwhile contractions were still coming every 3min and I was in PAIN). Got to the room and they hooked me up to machines and realized baby's heart rate was dropping with each contraction, so they were not able to give me an epidural yet until they got her heart rate down. Meanwhile..more pain. They broke my water, inserted some probes in me to monitor her heart rate and put an oxygen mask on me. I'm not going to go into much detail now bc I don't want to scare anyone who hasn't had their baby yet, so long story short, by the time baby's heart was stabilized and they were able to administer the epidural, I was 8cm!!!!!! They gave me the epidural at the peak of a contraction (they were min apart now and there was nothing they could do about it), but the left side did not get numb!!!! Still in pain. I told the nurse about it and they ordered a redose of the epi and thank god it worked. I was FINALLY numb. Dear God thank you for the epidural!!!!!!!!!!!! An hour later I was 10cm and it was time to push! 20min of pushing later (even though I couldn't feel a THING..they did get me a mirror though so I could see her) and she was here! So two days of laboring at home and 7 hours of labor at the hospital and Rosey was born at 3:57pm at 7.6lbs and 20in long. She is so beautiful. Best of luck to all of you ladies still waiting on your LO!
