No tea... Whaaaaat?

So I've been sick with a nasty cold for the last week and have been drinking Tazo passion tea like nobody's business. Randomly today I find out certain herbal teas are a no-no, particularly hibiscus and rose hip, which is exactly what I've been going to town on for the last 7 days. Well, see ya in 9 months Tazo!

Not gonna lie... I'm a little freaked out. I'll be 6 weeks Wednesday and overall none of the nasty preggo symptoms have kicked it yet.

For all the experienced moms, did you drink herbal teas while pregnant?

Thanks ladies! This definitely put me at ease. (And the hubs thanks you too for curbing my panic!)
  • Black tea, green tea, etc. is generally fine. Herbal tea is more iffy since the effects of various herbs have no been studied in pregnancy. Use at your own risk, but most likely it's fine unless you are guzzling cup after cup every day.

  • I switched from Tazo Awake to Tazo Passion during my first pregnancy because of the high caffeine content of Awake. Like others have said, herbal teas aren't really studied in pregnant women so we don't know if they're good or bad. Drink at your own risk, I guess. Fwiw, my daughter is fine aside from having tubes in her ears because of constant ear infections like her daddy had when was little.

  • What if you drink cup after cup but you use the same tea bag over and over again, the caffeine would be less with each additional cup...
  • I am thinking everything in moderation is fine. The amount you would need to drink to have a lasting effect, I would think, would be pretty significant.

  • DH just brought over the label on the packaging of a lemon ginger tea I've been drinking (1 cup a night) and showed me it had a pregnancy warning I totally missed. It has lemongrass and that is a no-no. Argh. I have forgotten so much. I do believe in moderation it is probably ok but it still stresses me out so I won't drink it anymore. Pity. It was so relaxing.

  • I drink tea every day. I did with my two previous pregnancies as well. I use personal common sense, though, and don't follow some of the pregnancy warnings that don't make sense to me.
  • Peppermint ginger and rooibos tea! All safe and black tea and green tea in moderating just because of the caffeine content.. Avid tea drinker when pregnant, just gotta have a warm drink
  • I bought ginger tea to help w/ m/s and brought it to my RE's office before drinking and they said it was fine to drink & a good alternative to ginger ale. I was so paranoid, I brought the box so they could read all the ingredients. I also drink decaf black tea instead of decaf coffee.
  • I'm obsessed with Mighty Leaf - mint melange.
  • I am drinking ginger tea, too.  The warning on the box scared me too, but my RE said it was fine.
