ER.

my Saturday went from a nightmare to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

All week I've been experiencing pain with lots of bleeding. It wasn't spotting it was full on soaking pads. Tonight I decided I would go to the ER after relentlessly trying to go to my OB. The pain was so bad that I fainted which was a cause for concern. After being in the hospital for 3 hours now. They confirmed that I'm still pregnant and the baby has a strong heartbeat.
They diagnosed it as a subchorionic hemorrhage.

Has anyone else experienced this in previous pregnancies? Besides taking Tylenol what else did you do?

Also, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers! It looks as of right now I'm here to stay. :D

  • Thanks. It's just the amount of blood is alarming. It's scary especially when this is my first pregnancy and everything you read says: lots of blood and cramping= bad
    Spotting: okay
It was just heartbreaking thinking this could have been the end.
I go to my OB on Wednesday and hoping to see my bean.

    The ER works to strangely...
The u/s tech kept the screen away from me and I was never even shown the pictures. So now I brace for the $1000 hospital bill.

@cherish1986 I had a SCH with my first. It caused spotting and cramping at 8 weeks, and full-on bleeding with cramps at 12 weeks. I know it's scary, but try not to let it stress you out, and keep in mind that it might cause spotting/bleeding again. The nurse who sat down with me after my US explained that they see small SCHs is more than half of all women (they just don't always cause bleeding). They usually get absorbed back into the body during the first trimester. Your OB should be keeping an eye on it, to make sure it's shrinking.

I hope yours goes away quickly and causes you no more pain!

  • I was told I have a subchorionic hematoma almost a week ago. They found it on the ultrasound. Baby is doing great though. I have had no spotting or bleeding so I am in limbo. Will it just get re absorbed, will it bleed out, will it get worse? These are all my questions. I won't know until Dec. 10. So glad your baby is still healthy!
  • I had that with my daughter in 2009. Everything turned out fine in the end, and if I remember correctly it had resolved itself by 16 weeks. I had lots of ultrasounds between weeks 6 and 12 though. I think I may have had 5. The doctors just told me not to do anything strenuous and no sex until after week 12. I didnt have as much pain as it sounds like you have had but the bleeding was insane. Hope everything turns out good for you too.

  • When they did the transvaginal u/s last night it seem to aggravate it more.
Nurse: let me know if I'm hurting you?
Me: yes, it burns and your shoving it too hard
Nurse: oh, *shoves it in harder*

Yep. I remember that experience. They were like, ok you're getting an ultrasound. I was like, oh cool. Then I saw what is was getting an ultrasound with... It was extremely uncomfortable and generally painful every time she moved the thing around.

And now I'm in more pain than before. Kind of funny when they have signs up everywhere of their promises

    Um no.

I definitely remember being in quite a bit of pain after the ultrasound for a couple days. At least my u/s lady was sympathetic though. I had mine done at my OB and was 6 wks. I only had one more like that then they were not transvaginal. Thank God! I had random bleeding still until about week 12 or so. Then when I had my 16 wk u/s they said the sch was gone.
My SIL had one with her current pregnancy too. She is 7 mos right now and hers resolved with no major issues also. Hopefully that gives you a little reassurance. FX for all good news from here on and no more pain.
