Cloth Diapering

Should I throw them away??

So I have about 20 cloth diapers in various brands and 60-80 inserts. Problem is, no matter what, I can't get the stink out! I'm over the wasted time and have gone back to disposables. I was seriously reading my sanity for these CDs...

So now I'm wkndeing what to do with them... Do I sell them at a deeply discounted price & say "Hey, if you're willing to put in the work to strip these diapers, they could work great, I'm just too effing busy and losing my mind."? Or throw them away?

  • Oh goodness, there's all different kinds of brands (I bought them in a lot from another mom on a Mommy Facebook page, so good condition but who knows how old they are or what their wash routines were). They're all AIOs.

I just threw them in the washer & hung dry the covers & machine dried the inserts. I then found out about all the extra since cycles & now I feel like in can't undo the baked in scent?
  • If the pul isn't shot, the can probably be saved. I got lazy and decided to pass along the 2nd hand ones that needed elastic or velcro replaced. I'm sure I would have done the same with the ones that the smell did was out.
  • I've had good luck with RLR and a bunch of hot washes (when we started cd, DH was using our regular laundry detergent, bless his heart). Sorry to hear you are so frustrated! You are in good hands - these ladies are like cloth diaper whisperers :)
  • If you're losing your mind over cloth diapers, it's ok to set the cloth aside for a bit until you feel you can tackle stripping them.  (Assuming the diapers are all clean and dry.)
Cloth diapers shouldn't be stressful, and if it's stressing you out, it's ok to take a break until things calm down.
You need to do what's best for your baby and what's best for you.

When you're ready, take it one step at a time.  It's not something that you need to do right away, or even all at once.

This board is really pretty good at diagnosing stinky diaper issues.
We'll help you get to a solution (and hopefully a workable wash routine too).
