What do you do with baby clothes & gear that are outgrown or no longer being used .
The premie clothing I gave to the nearest WIC office & planning on taking some to the NICU unit where I delivered, they always had my LO dressed so cute , the clothing was donated. Not sure yet what I'm gonna do with future outgrown clothing

Re: Donate/pass on , sell/consign or keep for next LO

  • I am keeping everything. This is our first and we would like to have more kiddos. I bought gender neutral gear for that reason.

Good idea I had not thought of that, although I see the ad signs up ,in my area

If you have samples you don't want to use or partially used diaper packs that you obviously can't return once your LO has outgrown them, remember that centers like this can always use those things, too. :) I'm breastfeeding exclusively but received tons of formula samples while I was pregnant, so I passed them all on so that someone in need could get some use out of them!
  • I'm keeping most everything as of right now. When we have decided that we are done having kids, we will either sell the items or pass them on to family. I'll probably let MIL use the gear at her house for all the babies once we are done with it, at least until the next baby comes along. :-)
  • Nicole is our first so I'm boxing away all her outgrown clothes. We want one more within the next 2-3 years. If we end up with a boy, I will figure out what to do with the pink stuff then. We don't use our garage so everything that our LO doesn't use/need anymore that we want to keep will be stored there.

  • I always put a shout out on facebook for things like formula that's going to expire or diapers he's outgrown for anyone that needs it. My cousin is a social worker so sometimes she'll have families that need certain things I'll give to her to pass along. Other then that I keep everything since we've decided we're going to go for a third in a few years and my friends are constantly having babies so we're always swapping outgrown clothes.

I'm a quilter, so will keep my favorites to be sewn into a quilt.  The rest will either be donated or sold at a garage sale.

I've seen this on Pinterest, love the idea! Wish I had the talent to do something like this.
  • Like other PP's have said, I am a FTM and will save her clothes. We were team green so our big ticket items and some clothes are gender neutral.

I really love the idea of donating formula samples and partially opened diaper packs to a crisis pregnancy center.

  • I still have a huge bin of clothes from my first who turned 13 this year. I added from my 3 year old and have now started a separate box for boy clothes. I will either save the tiny sizes for doll clothes for my 3yo or give them to my sil for their lo due in April. They aren't going to find out what they are having so I just have to keep it until she delivers.

I am also hesitant to get rid of ot because I'm only 31 and my oldest will be out of the house when I'm 36. I'm not ready to say absolutely no more yet. I love the baby stages. Until they get to puberty. Then I want to send them back.
  • I'll be holding onto things until we are finished having kids unless my sister or SIL has a boy. In that case I'll pass them along with the understanding that they come back. When we've finished with having kids I'll keep some favorites and sell the rest in bundles.

  • I kept all of DDs stuff. But I'm giving most of it to a friend that's having a baby in December. I'm keeping all of my favorites tho. I'll do the same with all of DSs stuff too, until we decide if we want another one.
  • A few friends and I have started bins. Everything is labeled with the name of the family who bought it but we share all the clothing. We just pass the bin when the next person needs it.

My mom and sister quilt and want me to save DS favorite clothes to use for this. I have a cousin due in Dec and a friend due in March with boys so I've been dividing what I won't keep as momentos.

I've donated lots of the smaller diapers to a women's shelter in my community.

You mommas giving to to crisis pregnancy center are angels. I'm motivated now to donate to one if I can find one around me.

Edited iPhone autocorrect fail (apparently pregnacy is pre finance to my phone)
  • I'm keeping everything because this is LO #1, but if we decide not to have more kids I will either donate them to a friend or a shelter.

  • We are OAD and even if we weren't we're not even considering another until she is 5(Why save on the off chance we change our mind in 5 years?). I have a friend who is maybe 7 weeks along and I will hold onto things long enough to find out girl or boy for her, and if she has a boy I'll give her all* the gender neutral things and give all* the girl stuff to a local crisis center. If she has a little girl I'll let her pick things she wants out of my not keepsake collection.

*All meaning I am saving back favorites for a quilt as well. I'm not a quilter but I know a woman who owns a shop and makes them, this is something I'm willing to pay for. I'll never be able to give up the ruffle butt sleep and play NEVER! I hate that she's almost too big for it now.

I'm with you , I'm 38 , my oldest 3 are now independent & 2 are officially out of the house so just my 15,12 yr olds & my 8 week (today) twins at home . I too dread the adolescent/pubescent stage with the boys / I absolutely am still clueless there!!

However the babies were unexpected so any previous baby items were long gone , but honostly although it's been ( & still is) very tough to accumulate enough clothing ,blankets , gear etc.. For them ( I do their laundry 3x + a week) safety standards & such have changed so as far as gear is concerned ,we would have to buy again anyway .
  • I always gave all my things away to the local crisis pregnancy center. With each new baby I always accumulated everything I needed for really cheap. It's true when they say bless and you will be blessed!

    ABSOLUTELY this !!!

  • I'm hanging on to clothes for now (all the NB stuff fit into two gallon ziplocks anyway) and gave the leftover NB diapers to somebody at the local mom's group. We'll keep things for another kid, and for friends since it looks like the rest of DH's crew is starting to have babies too.

We're holding on to most of it until we're done having kids. Once we're done, all of it (the usable stuff at least) will be donated. I'm trying to reduce my pack rat tendencies and learning to purge the stuff I don't need.

eta- I love the quilt idea, I just can't sew. lol

  • I plan on keeping everything for our next LO I have a feeling we're going to end up with all girls lol we have a lifetime crib so it will grow with her and have the matching furniture and for the other pricey items such as high chair stroller and car seat we requested gender neutral just in case our next one is a boy I will not get rid of anything until we decide were done having babies and I would ultimately like three and LO is our first
  • I Really like the quilt idea too! I'm inspired to see if there is project out there I can attempt , I don't know anyone who can help me make a quilt .
