Prenatals!

Hi everyone - I just wanted to mention that I am using an amazing prenatal. Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal - some could say it's a bit on the pricey side but well worth it! It's completely plant based so your boy absorbs almost all the nutrients, no bright yellow pee. I used to manage the vitamin dept. at Whole Foods so I'm keen to certain aspects of what makes a great vitamin but this really blew my mind. Also - it contains Folate NOT Folic Acid (the synthetic, lab created version of Folate) which makes me feel lots better.

I'm only 6 weeks 3 days but my energy levels are incredibly! My boyfriend is absolutely shocked. Other than some random (ok, not SO random) moodiness and extreme impatience, mild cramping, and SORE boobs, I feel great! No MS, fatigue, etc. I started taking these two days after I found out I was pregnant and I noticed an immediate difference. The days prior I was so sluggish and miserable. I suggest them to everyone! (I'm even taking my boyfriend to get the men's multi today haha!)

However, I thought it would be nice to have other ladies provide their own feedback on what prenatal they like.........

Re: Prenatals!

  • I get the One A Day Prenatals. I like them because they come with a DHA pill.

  • I use the Garden of Life's Kind Organics - Prenatal Multi.  My understanding is that it's very similar to the Vitamin Code Raw version (they're by the same company) but this one uses organic ingredients.  I really like it, find it easy to digest and would highly recommend it!

I used this with dd and I am using it with this one. I have hard time with pills but I've never really had a hard time with these.

Some yes, some no.  Ask your doctor or pharmacist for a recommendation.  (It depends what the coating is made of / does.  Some of the coatings protect the pill for dissolving too soon in your GI tract, other pills are okay to be split in two.  Good luck! :)

This. I take the gummies because I can't swallow medicine bigger than birth control. Can't get Tylenol or Motrin down (got a box of Tylenol chewable the other day ). Whenever I need prescription medication it is always fun and envolves me making sure the medicine is crushable and then taking it with apple sauce
  • Oh good!! I'm not alone!!
  • I take Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System. I looked into Vitamin Code Raw but couldn't justify the price.

  • Meijer in my area does free PNV if the doctor writes a prescription for this specific kind. My OB told me about them. Seems to have everything I need plus DHA. Not too big, and no weird taste :-) free makes me happy!

  • I use PNV prenatal plus.. I am thinking about taking an extra folate vitamin a day, anyone else do this?
  • I like the the Rainbow Light Prenatal One. It's only $10 at Target and has 50 pills. Take one a day. i break mine in half. It also has probiotics.
  • Gummies.  I'm taking Zofran for nausea, sometimes Colace for constipation, and supposed to be taking Synthroid for thyroid.  Already more pills than I can usually manage to get down (thank God Zofran is now dissolvable on your tongue!).  So I'm grateful for a prenatal that isn't a pill.  I know some say that the gummies don't have enough of some vitamins/nutrients, but my doc said it has enough of the most important ones.  And if it comes down to taking the gummy and getting slightly less than ideal, versus not taking anything at all, obviously taking the gummy is better.

I'm taking these too! Amazon was about $25 cheaper than Whole Foods! Anyway, I feel great about these so far. There are on the large side of the spectrum but I think the money I spent on them encourages me to choke them down. So far none have come back up. And no gross burp aftertaste!

They're "big" but they're capsules, so you can break them apart and put them in juice, a smoothie, yogurt... etc. Although I feel like with a big gulp of water and taking a deep breath, they go down really easily!
  • My doctor actually prescribed me prenatal vitamins, she said that the one I was taking didn't have enough folic acid...I think she said I should take 1000mg a day? If any of you live near a Basha's grocery store, consider asking for a prescription, they are free for a year at Basha's
