July 2015 Moms

how soon would you fly with newborn?

Hiya! I'm new to this so excuse me if this is totally wrong & ends up somewhere in Neverland!

My EDD (not confirmed just going on my last period) is 22nd July 2015! Every year we have a big family holiday that falls at the end of August! I live in the UK and the holiday is in Spain! I would love to take baby along and I know my family would all love this as well! but I'm not sure if he/she will be too newborn for this! He/she will be about 4-5 weeks, if they decide to come on time! *fingers crossed*

What's the earliest you'd recommend flying with a newborn & what's your opinions of taking them to a different country for a holiday as early as 4-5 weeks?

First time mummy so please don't judge if this is totally unheard of and crazy of me to consider! :)

Thanks ladies

  • I did see that thread but there wasn't anything about it being a holiday, was just going from one place to another and I didnt know if there might be some different thoughts with me wanting to take a newborn to Spain on a holiday!

I'm not understanding what you are asking. What do you think would be different about your situation?

  • That I live in the UK and I want to take a 4-5 week old baby to Spain, a completely different country. I'm not just flying from one place in the UK to another. Didn't know if there would be anything else to consider with the baby being in a different country without all of his/her vacs and stuff. Like I said FTM and just looking for some advice, sorry if I sound dumb!

    I don't see an issue
  • Thanks ladies! Sorry to repeat a thread xx

  • He/she will be on my passport till they're old enough to have one for themself :) I was on my mums from birth till I was 9! So I know that isn't an issue :)

I think the best time to travel with kids is when they are tiny. They sleep most the time and definitely are easier on planes than toddlers. I say go for it! Just plan ahead really well and a lot of pediatricians recommend having a bottle or something they can suck on for take of and landing. Have fun!
  • I already responded to the other post, but here is a link to my blog entry about it after traveling with my son a lot this past year:

  • Honestly I wouldn't go. I made the mistake of going on my family reunion "vacation" when my son was just a month old and it was STRESSSSSSFULLLLLLL! One he wasn't set in a schedule yet though I was trying so that just made it worse. Plus I was already very exhausted and that trip just made it worse. I was miserable.
  • Thank you for all of your replies! I'm 21 so maybe things have changed from when I was younger about the passport situation so I'll look into that! Thank you for sharing your stories! It's not until next year and we need baby here first anyway hehe! Gonna stop worrying about the vacation & look forward to meeting our little one! :)

    Thank you again ladies!
