1st Trimester

Worried beyond all belief!

Hi all! I received a positive pregnancy test about 3 weeks ago, and if my calculations are correct I'm about 6 weeks along. This is my first pregnancy and I'm so overly worried. The tought of miscarrying is on my mind constantly and it is just all consuming. I do all I can to try to be positive, but I can't help but worry. My first prenatal apt is next week and my first ultrasound is in 3 weeks. Any advice on how to not worry so much about this?? I feel like i can't be happy about it until I push this worry aside. Thanks!

Re: Worried beyond all belief!

  • As of right now everything is fine but the level of your anxiety is something you need to bring up at your appointment or even see if you can get some counseling before then. Take care of yourself and try to relax.

  • I understand how you feel! I told my DH my worries and told him that I'm doing enough worrying for the both of us. I told him i need him to be Mr Super Positive and he says all the right things to calm me when I have little freak outs. It really helps when your DH can be that support system. Positive thoughts sending your way. Take care and try to enjoy this and relax!

  • I think everyone thinks and worries about that, but it does seem like your anxiety is higher than normal.  Have you had a loss before?

  • I'm right there with you! I suffer with anxiety and found out I'm pregnant Tuesday. I deal with it pretty well, but today has been full of worry and fear. I've been thinking up every hypothetical I can! You are certainly not alone in your fear. I sometimes find keeping my hands busy can take my mind off of things a little. I was told playing games on your phone or messing with a rubiks cube gets your mind and hands busy and can be helpful. I hope things get better. I know how upsetting worrying can be.
  • Thank you all for the positive vibes :) it is much appreciated!
  • I am in the same boat...I want to be excited, but at the same time I am so scared to get "overly excited" for fear that something is going to happen...glad to know I'm not the only one... Helps ease the anxiety a bit..
    :)
  • Worrying wont change the outcome of any situation. You need to try to focus on other stuff to keep your mind busy.
  • You've got to chill. You can't always control what happens in life but you can choose to think positive thoughts. I don't see a good outcome in stressing and worrying over what ifs...
  • I know how you feel. I am 6 weeks 3 days and I go from worry and dread to pure elation. This is my first and it took 4 years and fertility assistance to get to this point. Every little ache and pain sets me off. But DH has been fantastic and he tells me to visualize everything being fine and he won't even entertain my worries about losing the baby. Keep in mind women have babies every day, and yes the risk of miscarriage is 15 to 20 but that means 85% are fine. Worry about the things you can control and focus on keeping yourself healthy for that little miracle growing inside you
  • I have been racking my brain with so much negativity and I'm normally a positive person. My husband is so excited to tell family but I'm so nervous of "what could happen" that I've been putting it off. Our first ultrasound is 2 weeks from today and our first prenatal is in about 3 weeks. I keep trying to talk myself out of buying more HPT to keep checking in on everything. We found out on Dec 1 and I'm 5 weeks pregnant today. Glad to know I'm not the only one!
