October 2014 Moms

help me make gravy.

So. I'm not a huge fan of gravy and never make it. However, I'm doing the cooking this year and if there is no gravy, my dad will be sad. I'm getting a deep fried turkey from a caterer the day of, so I won't have any of the turkey juices or bits from cooking it to make it with.

Any ideas or tips?

Re: help me make gravy.

  • You could possibly purchase giblets to make your turkey stock. If not you can use store bought chicken stock no one will know the difference! Then follow what the two ladies above said. It's really easy. If you get it too thick just put it more stock or toss in cornstarch if it's not thick enough.

  • I won't have any drippings because I'm not cooking the turkey. Will it be flavorful enough without it?

  • Gravy packets! I don't even bother to make regular from scratch gravy any more.  Instead of water I use pan drippings or chicken stock.  If you are looking for the turkey flavor, hit up your meat counter and see if they have any turkey wings or legs. Then you can easily roast those in the oven days before Thanksgiving and use those drippings.  Also did you ask the person making your turkey? They make have gravy or the innards for you to boil to make stock.

  • I use this recipe and love it! You can replace the turkey stock with chicken stock and just leave out the pan drippings.
