Fetal Hiccups

Baby girl is currently on a 10 minute hiccup spree. It's neat because DH really has a chance to feel her, and I know it is a good sign that her nervous system is developing.

Has anyone else expirenced this yet this pregnancy?

  • Yes...baby boy is a huge hiccuper (is that a word?) a little annoying sometimes.....

  • I had them with DD but not yet with this little one, not that I have noticed anyways.

This is me too. Last pregnancy, felt them all the time. This time, nope.
  • Dumb FTM question....what do they feel like? Would I know if she had them?
  • It feels kind of like a muscle spasm. It's light and really rhythmic and like op said, they go on for a while.

I'm sitting next to you on the dumb FTM couch and wondering the same thing.
I'm a FTM! ....you will know when your babe has 'em. It is a smaller movement (than a punch or a kick) and consistant.

Of course, all positive baby movement is a blessing and I'm very grateful for it all....but as @ambz06060 mentioned it becomes almost annoying.

  • Not much hiccuping from this LO yet, but I used to looove when both DDs would have hiccups at the same time! It was so freaking adorable. :)

Yea there are little consistent movements. And yes, I love my boy and everything he does, but the hiccups happen when I'm trying to sleep...so.....

  • This baby hiccups at least 4-5 times a day. It feels like a rhythmic twitch it's annoying to me cause it's like it head butts my cervix everytime
  • I feel my baby boy hiccuping and he hits my pelvis. Annoying at times, like at night when I'm trying to sleep!!
  • This guy hiccups all the time. I started noticing them really around 6months. They feel just like hiccups but in the uterus. Rhythmic jumps for minutes at a time.

  • This kid hiccups at least twice a day for no less than 5 minutes at a time. I love it! The hiccups are the one thing that make me giggle and the only part of pregnancy that doesn't annoy me.

I've been feeling something similar at the top of my belly, and I read that it's the baby practing breathing? Not sure if that's true but I plan to ask at my appt on Monday.

  • Little lady has them ALL THE TIME. FTR, 1st time moms: it's perfectly normal...don't freak out if they get them a lot. :)
(I freaked out my first time...asked my doc...saving you the worry :) )

  • This is the second day in a row I am noticing them! Earlier today he went on for a good 10-15 minutes at a steady rhythm. At first I was really nervous and uneasy about it bc I had no idea what was happening with my little man! Of course I took to google and learned all was well:) if only I'd seen this thread sooner! Ha

  • Ugh, 5 mins after reading this thread, baby started his 2nd hiccup session of the day, I'm feeling the rhythmic movement right next to my bladder this time, and I'm trying to sleep!

  • @pikopiko -- Whenever I do feel her hiccuping it always feels like it is right on top of my bladder!

  • @mrsclark731‌ Thank you for this thread! I am having my first experience with his hiccups right now and I never would have known! :x
  • DD1 had them all the time but this time none so far. It's a fun feeling so I'm looking forward to it. Last night DD2 was practicing her audition for Riverdance so that was fun too.

I don't know how common they are, but my mom told me that me and my brother never hiccuped but my sister did. So maybe some don't? I have no idea though
