WATER BROKE AT 32 weeks pregnant. PLEASE ANYONE HELP ME GET THROUGH THIS??!!!

I went into preterm labor on the 19 which I was 31 weeks n 5 days and to make it worse the hospital I was registered at couldn't take me cuz I wasn't 32 weeks yet and they didn't have a neonatal care that could take care of babies under 31 weeks so I rode in an ambulance to a good hospital that I been at 2 nights now. They have me on FULL bed rest and they gave me magnesium to stop labor plus finIshed both the steroid shots to get his lil lungs developed sooner!!! I only dilated to 1cm and have stopped. The goal is to make it 35 weeks plus I'm having a planned c-section anyway so all I have to do is make it in here 3 more weeks and hope and pray no infections or that labor try's to start again and then when they take him at 35 weeks it's less likely he will have to go to the neonatal unit and can come on home with me and my hubby!! I've been a wreck my husband works 10 hours and has had to stay at home to watch my 15 year old son at night an get him off to school which is his stepson and this baby is his first so it's taking a toll on all of us plus I'm so emotional and trying to be strong but I'm all alone with no friends stuck here on a hospital bed. Anybody out there?!!! Any advice or wana talk?! Please help me get through this!!! ANYONE?!!

  • I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I don't have any advice, but it sounds like you're surrounded by a good medical team who has a solid plan in place. Do you have any friends or other family who can come visit or who would watch your 15 year old to let your husband come visit you? Aside from that, I'd also be sure to make friends with the nurses. They were invaluable to me when I was in L&D trying to avoid preterm labor last month. Good nurses can be good sounding boards and can offer reassuring advice when you're close to a freak out. Try to keep calm (though I know how difficult that is in this scenario). My Ts and Ps are with you and your family. Fingers crossed the baby cooks for another three weeks!

Any advice I could give would not be as nearly as helpful as the advice you would get from your doctors and nurses.

Sorry you are going through this. Perhaps you find a new TV show to watch or get started on the mailing addresses for your holiday cards.

  • My water broke yes and under close watch trying to get me to 35 weeks and take him then unless distress or infection occurs. Praying none of that happens
  • Thanks everyone!! And yea my mother is on her way to day to discuss watchin my son so my hubby can stay up here more with me although he Just started 7 days a week and 10 hour days the DAY MY water broke!! I'm very grateful for any advice. A lot of docs and nurses seem to disagree on a lot of things here so it gets confusing but I listened more to the neonatal docs them
  • My good friend was due in November and her water broke at 32 weeks. They successfully kept her pregnant and in the hospital for 2 weeks. She and baby are now home. Baby had to stay and exta 10 days but is doing just fine today. Stay strong and get some rest.
  • Wow that's wonderful. I'm pushing to want to stay TIL 35 weeks so less likely my baby will have to go to NICU at all but I'm under a lot of care an plenty of diff docs and nurses are watching to do whatever's right for the baby and myself
  • Sorry that this is happening. Sounds like you have a good medical team watching you. Hope your H gets to spend some more time with you.

  • T&ps for you and LO. We have had a 29 week preemie and a 32 week preemie in my family in the last few years (both are doing great now). Hopefully they can let LO cook as long as possible though.
  • I had a friend whose membranes ruptured at 33 weeks, they kept her on bedrest and gave her steroids for the babies lungs and antibiotics to prevent infections. I think she made it it 35 weeks and some change.

Why are you posting this in N14 as well? I assume it's elsewhere, but I'm too lazy to look. Was just creeping at their announcements.

She posted the same thing on 5 boards, so I can't really put any effort into sympathy. Has to be MUD.

    5 boards? Really?

  • I also thought once water broke the clock started counting down 24 hours and the babies had to be out. However, when my water broke at 33w 1d, I was surprised that the hospital wanted me to stay on hospitalized bed rest until the babies came. They wouldn't induce labor but they also said they wouldn't stop it if it started since I was past 32 weeks (I guess that's kind of a magic number?) but that they'd prefer to keep them cooking until 34 weeks, at which point the risk of infection outweighed the benefit of keeping them inside. I was put on IV antibiotics to prevent infection.
  • Wow, OP you need to learn some internet caution. I didn't even notice that your SN is your full name until now. That straight up led me to your room number at the hospital you're at. Super scary. Lock your Facebook down!
  • I'm thinking she posted on nov, dec and jan, because her baby can come at any of those times. Plus third tri and high risk, because she is both...

I don't think it's MUDD either, I just think she doesn't know Bump etiquette.

OP, please change your name on here!!!
  • I don't really have any advice. Sending T&Ps to you and baby and family! Hopefully hubby's work would understand that he needs a little time off to be with you but I know some jobs/work places just suck in situations like these. I like one of the other posters suggestions with getting friendly with the nurses. I'm sure they would be invaluable in getting you through this. Hang in there!
  • To ThePregosaurus thanks that really made me feel a lot better
  • Good luck I hope LO stays cooking longer. Sending good vibes.

  • Being on bedrest after a water break does not constitute MUD. Its incorrect to assume a water break means labor is imminent in every situation.

OP, sending thoughts and prayers your way. My sisters' water broke at 33 weeks and she was in the hospital and on bedrest, mag and steriods shots for 3 weeks. It is completely possible and just because your water breaks does not mean that you have a complete loss of amniotic fluid, and that baby must be delivered immediately. Letting my niece cook a little more saved her life. She was heavily monitored so infections would be caught promptly and dealt with. There is hope and praying that you make it as long as you can in this tough spot.
