Much hate for useless booger suckers.

Ah! The damn things (traditional bulb one) never seem to work and DD gets super hysterical when I even get close to her nose with it. This then causes her to suck the boogers further into her nose. I haven't tried the Nosefrieda because the whole thing weirds me out a bit but if they work... Any suggestions on nose booger sucker outer things?

  • Buy the Nose Frida! I thought it was gross too, but it's nearly impossible for the grossness to get in your mouth.

  • Just give in to the glory of the Nosefrida. You will wonder why you wasted time with the bulb syringes.
  • Agreed on the Frida! I said I wouldn't do it and now I can't believe I ever waited. When I tell expectant moms my baby necessity list, it's at the top of my list! I also use a few saline drops to loosen things. Then after sucking sometimes I put a little Aquaphor in there bc the pedi said sometimes when they fuss when touching their noses it's because it's so dry it can hurt. That also helps the booger buildup!
  • Nose frida advocate also. It works.

I still can't give in to the Nose Freda thing and still use the sucker. My mother in law uses saline to loosen it up, but I haven't felt the need to do so. Also sometimes using the sucker, you can bring the slime to the edge of the nostril and then I will use a tiny wash cloth and pull some more out. This is such a gross conversation, but I love how when you become a mom you talk a lot about poop and boogers and it's totally ok.
  • After seeing what I get out of her nose with the NoseFrida vs what the bulb gets out, there is no way I could NOT use the Frida. I resisted as well until she was super stuffy and I broke down and had DH go get one. I could never use it on someone else's kid, but it's not that gross to use on my own after knowing how much relief it must give her. I wouldn't want that much snot sitting way back in my nose, so I'm sure she doesn't either.

I use Arm and Hammer baby saline mist first before I use it. Also, the pedi told me to only use the frida it like 3 or 4 times a day when she had a cold so it wouldn't dry her nose out too much, but the saline mist we can use as much as we want and that helps clear her out a decent amount. So you nah try the mist if you don't want to use the Frida.

  • Another vote for Nose Frida.
  • The Nosefrida freaks me out, too.  My DH is actually the boogie champion at our home.  Somehow he gets LO to SMILE while he's cleaning the boogies out.  If I come anywhere close with the bulb thing, I'm suddenly the scariest and most horrible thing in the history of babies.

DH's usual way of getting the stubborn ones out is a little saline, then suction out what he can.  Sometime he uses boogie wipes for any hangers-on.

  • Thanks ladies! It's going into my next Amazon order. Along with some baby saline.
  • Confession time:  DS1 is almost 3.  I figured out precisely 2 weeks ago when DS2 got a cold that I have been using the NoseFrida backwards for the past two years. *head palm*

How?  The picture is right on the box on how to use it?

  • Another vote for Nosefrida!  It always freaked me out as well, but once you use it, you'll never be able to go back to the bulb!

I know, I know.  I always just assumed that the soft part went against their nose and the hard part in my mouth.  And the soft part is bigger, so I got a better seal that way.  Probably sucked out a good portion of DS1's brain as a result . . .

(just realized that read out of context the middle two sentences sound quite dirty)

I really just LOLed at this visual.
  • While on the topic of snot suckers....

My daycare told me yesterday that they can no longer use a bulb or any other foreign object to suck out the snot.  I also have to provide a note from my doctor to say he approves the use of salinedrops!  I kinda of understand the bulb ...but the drops are over the counter.

I'm no super nervous that dd won't have relief from a stuffy nose and will be miserable at daycare.

Anyone else's experiencing this at their providers?

Not with nose stuff but with gas drops the two weeks we had her in care (I ended up quitting my job and SAH). At first it was just filling out their form on how often/how much. Then they wanted a Doctors note even though they were OTC. It turned into this whole ordeal. Hopefully you get some resolution :-( we didn't. Well, at least not in the practical way.
  • When I was pregnant, I told a friend I would NEVER use the Frida. She said "I'm just gonna haunt you with this... One day, you will be so desperate to get the boogers out, and your curiosity will get the best of you, and you will get it, and you will love it. I promise it's gonna happen" I swear I could hear that repeating in my head as I marched down the aisle towards it one night after becoming so desperate. I will never buy another bulb, and it actually isn't nearly as gross as you would think initially
  • How often are you supposed to change the filters? Also, can you suck too hard (I know that sounds terrible)? Every time I use it my baby laughs and laughs.

I was wondering the same thing. I found one on Amazon that includes a pack of 20 filters for like $17.50?
