Questions about OB apt after leaving RE

Hi ladies,

I have my last apt with my RE on Monday and my first OB apt Dec 10th. I'm extra nervous because it's a completely new clinic/doctor. I know several of us started our pregnancies with our wonderful RE's then were released to an OB. What I don't know, is what to expect. It seems stupid to let the new OB make me pee on a stick, check betas and do a pap smear when I've already been seeing another doctor - who did all of that. So, what happened at your first OB apt after being released from the RE?

Yaay! This is an exciting step!!

I had copies of all my blood work and my early ultrasounds given to me so I could take with me to my appt. I live in Ontario so it's a bit different as I don't see an OB until 3rd tri, so I've been under my GP (who lucky for me was an OB for many years) care. I also made sure I had the blood work for the std/rubella immunity, etc. I had done with me. If you've had any prenatal tests you can also request that. I'm sure every office is different but they accepted all of this and we continued with a normal prenatal appt. and nothing was repeated.

Most OBs will treat you at the first appt the same way the treat everyone else. They gave me a pregnancy test even though I'd had several verified ultrasounds already. They told me they do this even for new patients who have visible bumps! If you have had a pap smear, do try to transfer those records, and the test usually causes some bleeding which is scary. I don't think most OBs check betas, but perhaps it depends how far along you are. The hardest part for me was giving up the routine ultrasounds. The OB used a little handheld on the first visit, then I had the NT and A/S, but that's it for scans for the whole pregnancy!

Congrats on moving on to an OB! My RE and OB shared records so there was no need to verify the pregnancy or anything like that. My 1st appointment with my OB was just a normal prenatal appointment at 12 weeks. I still have all my records shared with my RE.

I have no experience with an RE, but did want to offer my support!

The only insight I can share is that you should expect anything. After our loss, we switched docs because it was too much to go back to the place where we had such a traumatic loss. Our experience was like A COMPLETE 180. We're in love with the way our new place operates and were pleasantly surprised by most everything. That's my 2 cents

Congrats on moving to the OB! I was in the same boat, first time meeting new OB, and she took some history and basically assured me that she totally got the PgAL thing and was going to do everything possible to make it easier for me, including doing a quick US that day when we didn't have any luck with the Doppler. And then we talked about first tri screening and made a plan for how often we'd see each other. Good luck!

Thank you ladies for the support and info! With all of the different experiences, I guess we really are going to have to wait and see what happens!

I am very thankful we get to see our little raspberry again on Monday.
