Eye appointment, eye glass brand recs

So we took J to see an ophthalmologist today . Back during the summer we noticed his left eye would float inward while he was eating or reading a book. (It took us this long to get in.). So after the WORST temper tantrum I have ever seen J have (it took THREE of us to hold him so the doctor could "shine his light" in J's eyes.), we have a diagnosis of amblyopia in the left eye (lazy eye) and accommodative esotropia (which is a crossing of the eyes). The good news is we caught it all very very very early and we are hoping corrective glasses can help enough so we don't have to go the surgery route. So he gets fitted for glasses early next week and should have them by the next. He is going to look so cute in glasses!!

Does anyone's littles have glasses? Are there certain brands you like? Our friend and J's regular doctor said they really like Miraflex brand. Apparently they are super flexible, rubber-like and they are supposed to be indestructible. Look how cute they are!!! DISCLAIMER: this is not my child, just to show what the glasses look like!

Oh, and all of this after he had a stomach bug Tuesday. Luckily he hadn't thrown up since 2pm Tuesday and his fever was completely gone by 5pm Tuesday so we spent the entire day yesterday just resting and getting him back on track with sleep and eating. It was terrible...first time J has ever had a throw up session....and it was not pretty. I'm glad he is feeling better and is pretty much back to normal!

We are always one step away from glasses. I have asked on preemies and special needs, and they like Miraflex. They have some general info about glasses on the special needs FAQ and you can ask them questions. A few kids on there have glasses, if I recall.

As someone who has worn glasses since she was 6, I think ALL the cool kids wear them:). Good for you that you caught it early!

Do you or your H wear glasses? DS has play glasses (no lenses) and he loves them. He especially loves the days when I don't wear my contacts and we can wear glasses together. Maybe start talking them up to him now, so when he gets them he thinks wow I really wanted glasses and now mom and dad got them for me!

I will most certainly post pictures once we get them. We go Tuesday or Wednesday for a fitting and I think she said it will take 5 business days to get them in.

I agree cool kiddos wear glasses...he definitely has the personality to pull them off!

My H was diagnosed with the same eye disorders when he was 5. We both wear glasses but I typically wear contacts. We've been letting J wear his sunglasses a lot more to try and get him used to having something on his face. He has never really liked sunglasses but I'm determined to help him make the transition the best we can.

While we were waiting for our appointment the nurses were totally eating J up...he was sitting on their laps and saying what the letters and numbers were on their desk calendar. It was so sweet, they were impressed with his knowledge. Makes me so proud that he seems to already be a smart little booger!
