  • I just bought a maternity winter coat from old navy. The price was right and it's been good so far in Chicago. I don't know if it'll be the warmest coat, but I'm thinking I'll have room to layer.

Old Navy coats are reasonably priced. They even have a maternity section (not sure about coats). Just dont buy an XS.

I have a wonderful coat from Lands End. It's a misses XS and at almost 20 weeks it's getting pretty tight! Anyone have any ideas on good coats for harsh winters for preggo ladies at a decent price????
I'm pregnant and I bought a winter coat at Motherhood Maternity for a decent price. It's a blue and black plaid peacoat, but I'm not going to discuss what size it is.  No need for that.

  • Just buy the next size up, or push it to a medium seems simple enough to me. Did anyone else shudder at the word "preggo" 8-X

  • I think instead of saying that she was a size 2 OP should have just posted a picture of herself bursting out of her current coat. Of course the image in my head is probably way funnier than in real life.

I HATE "preggo" but for me "preggers" takes the stab-me-in-the-eardrums trophy!!! BLEH!

I was feeling like john candy, "fat man in a little coat"... But seemed to have offended everyone when I was just trying to ask a question. Oh well I will figure this out on my own.

I'm confused, why did you delete the original post?

  • I'm in the south, it will be 70 this weekend but was a high of 36 all this week!!

I also realized my normal warm coats didn't fit. Since I was working through lunches & late every night I didn't have time to shop. I borrowed one from my mom in a larger size until I go shopping. I just borrowed a pea coat that is more of an A line so it gives more room for the belly.

A line tends to be a little more belly friendly :)
  • Wore my pea coat today... Got one button. Lol oh well at least I don't usually need a coat but I LOVE that coat. I've had it for like 8 yrs from Delia's... Doubt they've got maternity. Lol

  • Shoot I'm about to move into size 22 ... (Size 16 American I think) but I don't care, I eat to live, and shit happens . But I'm not about to whinge about a dang coat.
  • The fat guy in a little coat comment is ridiculous. (Not to mention that she got it wrong). I still think it seems like we're snarking her for being small, not for making a goofy post. Just my two cents.

I was also going to say this.  If she had said size 22 would we be acting differently?  I mean XS coats and XXL coats are both kind of hard to find in maternity.

As terrible as it is for me to WK this after a not so sensitive edit to the post, it does seem like skinny shaming.  Also, now every time I put on my non maternity coat I am singing that song in my head, and it did kind of make me laugh.

  • Also I'm pretty sure it was not John Candy in a little coat but rather Chris Farley....image

  • Whatevs. I don't care what size you are; trying to squeeze into a too-small coat is going to feel EXACTLY like a "fat guy in a little coat". I am average and I sing that all the time when I realize something is a little snug. Because it's funny. The only thing I judge is OP crediting John Candy with the line.
  • The problem is, "fat" has become a pejorative term. I think skinny is, too FWIW.

  • I made a snarky comment because the wording of the title and her original post was ridiculous. A simple mention that her coat was now too small would have been enough.

Yes, to clear it up, i meant 7, actually. I am a size 16 and am plus sized. Sorry for the confusion. I had to think about it too, remembering our sizing is by even numbers and not every number is a size. Now to go back and read.

Eta: okay, only missed your question @clairhuxtable‌ while i was asleep.
  • I didn't see your original post. I have a hard time finding pregnancy clothes in my size. Even ankle length pants are about a foot too long! Ha There used to be a store names Babystyle that sold real petite sizes. Maybe someone is selling a used coat on ebay from there? I just use a regular coat but I don't live in a cold climate full time. I'll only be in the bitter cold for about a month. ( thankfully) Gap maternity is hit or miss, sleeves can be a little long. They have free returns though. FWIW if you made a Tommy Boy reference it wouldn't have offended me! I think that movie is hilarious! I'm for sure much bigger than my norm. I gain a pound a week in pregnancy! Mine goes to my butt though! LOL
  • @theinvadermothership - I get it now. Whew! You had me scared for a minute.

Oh no problem. Blame the stupid clothing companies and their messed up numbering system! :))
  • I love Tommy Boy - that reference makes me laugh...especially now that I'm still squishing in my coat.
