Heartburn

I have never experienced heartburn in my life up until two nights ago and it won't go away. First child, first heartburn. Where is December?!!!!!!

Re: Heartburn

  • Heartburn can suck it! I go through a big bottle of antacids in a week and a half. I've always had issues with acid reflux since I was young, so mine just got worse.

Doctor prescribed me zantac but it doesn't seem to work for me. When I get it, I have to have immediate relief!

    I feel you!

  • I never had heartburn in my life until I was about 32 weeks with my first. This time, I've had it since day 1 and it has only gotten worse. With my doctor's approval, I have been using Zantac twice a day and then Tums when I have a sudden flare up. The past few weeks when it has gotten so bad it has woken me up, I've actually slept in our lazy boy and that helps a lot. The good news is that it went away for me the first time after babe's arrival. Good luck!
  • Yep, great time in mommy land. You can try not eating fatty foods including fast food and fried foods, small but more frequent meals. Do not lay down an hour or so after eating. Sometimes sleeping on an incline will help like above mentioned.

My Dr said Rolaids but no Tums. IDK why no Tums (I was told why but don't remember). I know you can use Zantac if that doesn't help, but let your OB know. Also sometimes it is small gas bubbles pushing up the acid. So you can try Beno. I had it help with one kid.

I was told the opposite. I was told tums were the only safe ones to take. There is even a dosage on the back of the tums bottle for pregnancy.
OP, call your Dr and see what they say you can take. You can always try a glass of milk. That will give me some relief most of the time.

  • I was stupidly touching it out and finally gave in and started taking Zantac 150 once a day. Holy moly why did I fight it? Heaven! I can feel it wear off everyday at the same time. Tums was doing nothing.

  • I eat tums like it's my job. My midwife also suggested eating cashews to prevent it.
  • 1tsp at the least or 2 if you can handle it of apple cider vinegar helps me or tsp if baking soda mixed in with an shot of water works wonders. my tums bottle says only 3 tablets a day, i exceed that so i do other things as well :)  GL

Same here.  Tums.  Not rolaids (some contain aluminum).

This is why you should not seek medical advice from strangers on the internet, OP.  Call your doctor.

FWIW, the papaya enzymes do seem to help.  Too much calcium IS a bad thing - it can inhibit iron absorption.

  • Papaya enzymes save me daily.
  • My doctor prescribed Zantac (ranitidine) twice a day and it has been a life saver.  I had never had heartburn before pregnancy either.
