I'm not really sure what to think about this whole case. Today's episode was disappointing. I don't feel like it presented any valuable information. Plus, I get that she's a reporter, but the way she described relentlessly trying to contact the girls family rubbed me the wrong way.
I'm kind of in camp why would Jay make this up unless it was true? Or unless he did it and knew Adnan would be a great scapegoat?
I'm also kind of baffled that some items at the crime scene were never processed. This whole case just seems so odd.
I actually liked this one. I've been in the "Adnan is guilty" camp from the beginning because I couldn't see why Jay would lie. But if the whole best buy thing never happened, then jay made all of that up. And without Jay's testimony, the whole case falls apart. I also can't believe they can't figure out this best buy pay phone thing.
I can't get the ticker to work, but I have two sons:
The pay phone thing is odd to me as well. If there's no record of it being there, and no one remembers it being there, then again they are only going on Jays story. And his story changes a lot. I keep going back and forth on whether I tnink Adnan is guilty. I am however very surprised he was convicted pretty much solely on Jays testimony. Even if he is guilty the case is very flimsy. Unless there's something we don't know about, I am not sure how the jurors were able to decide to put him away for life. There's a lot of doubt about his guilt.
Does anyone know how many episodes there are going to be?
First I have to say thank you to whoever posted about this the other day. I have listened to all 9 podcasts this week.
I agree that the pay phone thing is odd. I find it hard to believe that nobody knew at the time that there wasn't a phone there. I keep thinking that Jay was the one who actually killed her, but then I go back to thinking Adnon did it. The whole thing is just very strange.
I'm starting to suspect someone else in the story but I can't figure out a motive for that person. Of course, Adnan didn't really have a motive either other than just being the ex boyfriend. It's also really hard to remember that these are real people and not just characters in a story, so I'm hesitant to throw out accusations. I don't know. This has been a really interesting look at a case though and seeing how imperfect the process is from the detectives, witnesses, lawyers, jurors, etc.
I thought this episode was great. I thought the information from Summer about being with Hae until almost 3 pm was important. She had a reason to remember it (feeling ditched at the wrestling match). It doesn't prove that Adnan was innocent, but shows that the prosecutor's case was bunk. I think that's the crux of the show though. We probably won't know who did it, and we may not know that Adnan didn't do it. But should a 17 yo have gotten life + 30 years based on that case? And it's interesting commentary on our legal/jury system.
And the whole thing that Jay said about Adnan threatening Stephanie so that he would keep quiet. But Adnan and Stephanie and their other friends all spent time together after Hae went missing and after her body was found. Seems if he was threatening Stephanie (and she supposedly knew about it at the party mentioned in a previous episode), then it seems unbelievable that they would spend time together and grieve together after her body was found.
Most of the rest of the episode didn't necessarily add new information, but it was so interesting about his life as an accused teenager then in prison. I think I enjoyed that part because it was the kind of story that TAL would tell. And I love TAL for that kind of reporting.
@TheRunningGinger, I've heard they are planning 12 episodes or so, but it could be a bit more depending on how the story unfolds. I'd guess they will be done before x-mas which gives 3 more episodes.
