What are your thoughts on plastic play food?

Sooo, if you talk about gender specific toys, you immediately might think barbies are for girls and trucks are for boys. What are your thoughts on plastic pay food? Just the food. Doesn't include the kitchenette thing that food can come with...

Seems like it's more for girls.

I think it's pretty gender neutral.

  • Neutral....I let my son help me cook (by cook, I mean, he pours the measuring cup with water or rice or noodles into the pan). Id be happy if fake food makes him want to grow up and cook real food!

  • Neutral--we have a step 2 kitchen (with play food) that we got for Landon for his "big" gift from Santa last year. He loves to make me coffee and Mac and cheese, lol! :) I was thinking of adding to it with some wooden food from PBK this year. I'd love it if they were inspired to get into cooking because of it :) Landon already loves to help bake and yesterday he asked if he could help make his PBJ sandwich.

  • My sons still love to play kitchen. Which is good, 'cause we aren't cooking for them when they move out.

  • Definitely neutral
  • Neutral. I bought alex a shopping basket of plastic food for christmas. He is going to love it!
@missymr I bought alex a little doll on the weekend. He brought one up to me at dc on friday. This one is small, meant to be a christmas tree ornament. He loves giving his baby hugs and kisses. I wish he loved Frozen!
  • Neutral. My nephew always played in the toy kitchen and with the toy food. I will be getting Oliver a shopping basket of plastic food for Christmas. :)
  • I voted gender neutral, but I don't believe that toys can be gender specific. DS has trucks and dolls.
  • I can't think of a toy I'd want DD to play with that is gender-specific. Yeah, barbies and bratz dolls are marketed to girls, but I hope the only things we do with them are disassemble them for Halloween craft projects. Play food is for everyone.

  • Haddy's getting play good for Christmas. He loves my nieces and my younger sisters so I figured, why not? He probably won't get a kitchen, though. Not because it's girly but because I'm not really sure where I'd put it.

    Maybe for his birthday.
  • Neutral. FWIW-- we don't bother with trying to steer the kids toward any specific toys. Alex loves to have a tea party & Abby brings her giant nerf gun to the party.
