blood test/sex of baby

My husband will be deploying shortly and would love him to be present when we find out the sex of the baby (not on skype). I cannot remember but isnt there a blood test that can tell you early on what you are having?has anyone done this...were they right? How accurate is the test?

    When I had my first visit with the NP she said there is a blood test that can determine the sex of the baby earlier than normal. I don't remember how many weeks it was though. We are going for our second appointment Monday and I can let you know then. Thank you to your husband for his service! My husband is retired military. I am lucky I was not with him when he was deployed. When does he leave?

    It's the Harmony test that tests for genetic abnormalities (Trisomy 13, 18, and 21 and a couple others too) and there is an option if you want to know the sex of the baby too. You can test as early as 10 weeks...had mine last week and am axiously awaiting the results which I heard can take 1-2 weeks. I did this instead of the Ultrascan as the Harmony test is supposed to be A LOT more accurate.

    He will be leaving right after christmas this is his second deployment :/ thank you for your help and thanks

    Do be aware that if you are not high risk your insurance is unlikely to cover the blood test. I've heard people get quoted anywhere from $200 to $1,000 out of pocket for these tests.

    They sound great but don't jump into getting one without checking with your insurance policy first. If they won't cover it, make sure you know your out if pocket cost before you get it...I know I couldn't justify dropping a grand for an optional test, but that is a personal decision and you may feel differently.

    Do thank your husband for his service on my behalf.

    I'm high risk and did the Panorama blood test a week ago. Insurance will NOT cover unless over 35yrs of age or high risk. Good luck and Thanks to your hubby and family :)

    How far along will you be when he gets deployed? Maybe you can go to one of those speciality boutiques that can do an early 3d ultrasound? I think they can do them around 15 weeks or so. My hubs is in the coast guard so I know how hard it is to be a military family and try to maneuver around their schedules! You're in my thoughts!

    My husband is deployed so will also be missing the sonogram where we find out the sex.  When he deployed, I sent two tiny Christmas gifts with him wrapped in different Christmas wrapping paper - one is filled with pink ribbons and the other with blue ribbons.  After I find out the sex, we'll then Skype and I'll tell him which present to unwrap so I can see his reaction :)

    If you aren't able to get the blood test or insurance does not cover it (i.e., Tricare), you can always think of some creative/special ways to announce the sex when he is deployed!

    I can totally understand wanting to find out before your husband deploys, OP. I hope it works out for you.

    On the subject of the pink or blue test, please read the reviews on Amazon before investing in it.
