Au Pairs?

There have been some big changes in my life recently and I realized the Bump was the place to go for some help.

We have a son who will be 3 in March and are expecting twins in June.  I'm a big planner and the twin thing has me completely out of my element (we only planned on having 2 kids!).  I'm trying to figure out the child care situation so I can keep working and started wondering about Au Pairs.  Has anyone done this?  Or researched it? If you didn't do it, why did you decide against it?   Any agency recommendations?  I've found a couple different agencies that place Au Pairs but I would love to hear any feedback.

My son is currently at Bright Horizons 3 days a week and while we love it, there is no way I'm paying to send 3 kids there.

 Any comments would be appreciated!

  • Oh my gosh Sarah - twins!?  Congratulations!!!!  I also can't believe your DS will be 3!!!  How are you?

I don't know anything about au pairs, but I do know they can stay here for 2 years.  To me, that seems a bit difficult because your kids get attached and they have to leave.  The cool thing is the possible exposure to a second language.

    What about a live-in nanny?

  • P.S.  I just saw your reply to my daycare post.  I'll definitely check into the Kirkland Children's School!  So the twins were a surprise?  How exciting (and yes - scary!).  So, if you are due in June, you must be 3 or so months along??  Too early to know if they are boys or girls.  I'm glad you like Bright Horizons.  I've heard a lot of great things about it, but its just too much money for us right now.  :)  Matthew will be 15 months when I go back to work, so definitely a toddler.  I'm glad to hear you are doing well!  What a crazy time this must be!!!  :)
