Hi! Introducing myself, plus a question. Current 9 weeks pregnant, second child. Due June 25th.... Is anyone doing/or did do lovenox shots throughout pregnancy? I didn't with my first, but am now with this pregnancy due to serious complications after my first. Just wondering how your experience was/ or how it is currently going?

There are a few of us in the high risk thread on blood thinners. I'm on heparin shots twice a day. I was on heparin with my daughter and had zero issues. You get used to the shots!

  • Thanks for letting me know! Can I ask why the heparin? OB says I will switch to heparin before delivery, but not until then.

  • I'm on lovenox. Have been for my past 2 babies as well. They burn and are a pain but you get used to it. I usually stop the shots right at 35weeks. My friends on heparin but strictly bc her insurance didn't cover lovenox. Not sure why you'd switch before delivery

  • OB said I would switch because there is an anecdote to heparin, and he could reverse it if I happened to go into labor on my own, and needed a spinal. (scheduled c-section).

  • @ttyson2808‌ Our decision to go with heparin was purely financial. It's about 200 per month on heparin and about 3000 for the lovenox with our insurance. The only difference is that heparin only lasts 12 hours, thus two shots a day.

  • My sister was on lovenox during both of her pregnancies due to a clotting disorder. Her best advice was that with the prefilled syringes don't express the it bubble that comes in the syringe. It helps push the thinner in and creates less bruising and burning. She kept expressing the bubble because she thought you were supposed to and was corrected by her doctor about halfway through her pregnancy.
  • I am currently on Lovenox for the duration of my pregnancy also. I had a large blood clot, and now need to be on injections 2 times a day. It's not fun, but you do get used to it.
  • I just started on Lovenox injections last week for a clotting disorder and it's definitely not as bad as I thought it would be. My stomach has tiny bruises everywhere, but the needle itself isn't painful. The medication definitely burns though. My doctor had said the same about switching to Heparin after delivery because of the anecdote. Aside from being super strict about doctors and medications, my insurance is pretty decent - my Lovenox is WAY under what it should be. My doctor even said to make sure I visit a pharmacy that participates in my plan because they're pretty pricey but I really lucked out.
