Taking LO's temperature

When you take LO's temperature under the arm, are you suppose to add a degree to what the themometer says?

Nobody has told me anything about taking her temp. The MW has always taken it under her arm and I can't recall what the pedi did. But it wasn't rectal. How far do you put the thermometer in rectally? I don't want to hurt her.

Our pediatrician told us to take it whatever way we were comfortable with, but to make sure if we called with a concern over temp, to tell them how we took it. The doctor's office will adjust accordingly.

@Tabithahaileyc‌ we use this rectal thermometer. I was so afraid of using a normal thermometer in case she squirmed because it took too long. This one is so quick and is shorter to prevent accidents.

If you're takingnt rectally, make sure to put some Aquaphor or Vaseline on the tip.

Our hospital and pediatrician both stopped doing rectal Temps. They both do underarm and didn't tell us to adjust. Similar to PP, just tell them how we took it if we are concerned.
