PCOS advice?

**Already posted this in infertility but someone directed me to posting on this thread instead!

Hi everyone - this is my first post!

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS last Tuesday - I went to my GYNO a week before due to finding a cyst & having a late period.  He mentioned PCOS to me and I agreed that I should take the test...I told him that I didn't want to be put on birth control because I am getting married next week and I would like to start a family. He prescribed me Provera to induce my period. When I talked to him on the phone Tuesday I asked if I should make an appointment with him to talk about my treatment options etc; he agreed and said that when I start my period the first day to call and we could schedule something - so that Thursday I called and left a message with the nurse telling her that I started my period and asked if I should take the remaining pills or disregard them - she called me back and told me that the GYNO said that I should stop taking the pills, she then basically asked me why I needed an appointment.  I once agained informed her that I was just diagnosed with PCOS that Tuesday and that I would like to come in and speak with him about my treatment options and that I heard that Metformin might be a good medication to take - she said she would speak to my Dr. and call me back. She called me back that day and told me that my Dr. would call me Monday (yesterday) to speak to me about Metformin...and this point I'm very much upset - I didn't and still don't understand how you can give someone a diagnoses of PCOS and expect them to just not have any questions or concerns and I don't understand why me getting an appointment is such a big deal....I was questioning myself as to whether I should see a specialist or  not but decided to hear what he had to tell me Monday and then make a decision from there. Well, yesterday came and went and there was no call - I called the Nurse again today and told her that my Dr. was supposed to call me yesterday but I didn't receive a phone call..she called me back a short time later and said that my Dr. had an emergency C-section yesterday and that he didn't get a chance to get to phone calls but I should be hearing from him yesterday afternoon, which I completely understand and not upset with.  He called me yesterday afternoon and just called in the prescription for Metformin to my local pharmacy and told me that he would up the dose every 2 weeks, but nothing more than that. I'm just wondering if it is normal to be treated this way?  I'm confused and not sure of what to do...as I said I am getting married on the 29th and would like to start trying to conceive right after we get married.  I'm just not sure how to go about this situation or what to do - any advice?!

We are planning to start trying in March 2015. I've been on bcp for three years, since my PCOS diagnosis. I'm meeting with my doc next week to discuss how to move forward with ttgp and all of the risks and best plans of attack. She is open to answering any of my questions and is extremely patient and understanding with my concerns. In fact, she was happy when I called and said it was a great idea to meet at this stage to discuss a plan.

Each body is different, and so is each doctor... But I would be hella pissed if my doc were treating me the way yours is. Time to find a different, more sympathetic one, I think.

Oh goodness, I'm just so confused - my periods are normally regular. I've read of many women getting only a few periods a year but I almost always have all 12 periods, sometimes they are a few days late but in a way that makes it "regular" to me, this last period was about a month late.  I have no earthly clue what test he gave me just that it tested me for PCOS and when he called he said my hormone levels would indicate that I do have PCOS...I've had multiple cyst rupture over the years (the cyst that I went in for this particular time was not an ovarian cyst it was on my skin) but I have had ovarian cyst rupture over the years at least 5 that I can recall (2 of them I ended up in the ER).  I'm just so confused on everything and this is all so new to me so I'm feeling I'm between a rock and hard wall & I have no clue what to do anymore. I'm trying not to stress about it but jeezum this is craziness!

Many women with PCOS are able to conceive without medications. I would try for a few months especially if you are having cycles <60 days and if it doesn't happen then move on to a fertility specialist.

    1) Get a new Dr. Stat! Preferably an RE 2) Calm down. PCOS is not life or death here. Yes, you MIGHT need treatment, and you may not. Even for couples with no fertility hurdles it can take a year to get pregnant. It is more than likely you will be tv for months. Getting pregnant is more like a marathon than a race. Prepare yourself for that. Also, I highly recommend picking up a copy of 'taking charge of your fertility' and learning and practicing charting. An accurate chart can tell your Dr. A lot of information about your cycle and helps determine if you are ovulating or not.
