I think we were in the ballpark of 10 a day when he was a newborn. I would also suggest not opening all of the packages right away. They move up sizes pretty darn fast when they are little. Only open a package when you are ready to use it, so you don't have opened packages that are too small for them. You can always return/exchange the unopened ones when they move up a size.
Ditto to the above. Average is one every 2/3 hours. Figure however often they feed, then they pee/poo.
FWIW, if using disposables, Pampers has an awesome indicator strip. Great for if you're not sure if they peed or not (when they're super tiny, so is the amount of pee). Saves you changing diapers unnecessarily.
The mom of the baby I sit said her pediatrician told them no cloth diapers until the umbilical cord falls off, because they can snag it. But that's really the only info I have on this topic.
10-12 a day in the beginning. I think lol. All I remember is dd had a dirty diaper every single diaper change for what seemed like forever! So much for breastfed babies not pooping every time. Lol
DS was a strange baby and only pooped once every 10 days or so (seriously) and he wasn't constipated ever just efficiently used all of his milk Hahaha so I wish I could give you an answer! Just don't go crazy buying a crap load of newborn sized diapers because a lot of babies grow out of them quickly, so I would suggest having some newborn on hand but also size 1. Even if you have a little baby he/she will grow into size 1 at one point! And if you need more newborn you can always go but them!
I'd always heard 10-12 for at least the first few weeks, but some days we had far less and others it was closer to 24. After about 2 weeks we out grew the nb size with my second. With my first she started out bigger, but lasted in the nb size for almost a month.

What brand do you ladies choose? Or do you just pick whatever is on sale/ the cheapest? There are so many options! Thx
Each baby is different, so it's hard to say, but I only used pampers swaddlers on our first, and plan to use them on this baby too. It's what the hospitals around us choose to use, so they must be more of a "universal fit", if that makes sense.
You'll figure out quickly what works for you and your LO. I liked Pampers for newborns/size 1 (again, the awesome indicator line), but Huggies were a better fit for DS as he got older.

That may used to have been the case (and the reason why we waited to CD for a while with my oldest), but not days they make CDs that accommodate the stump at least as well as a disposable. They either have a snap down in front or a curve in the front that looks the curve of the disposable.

We used huggies for my girl and pampers for my boy. Though, I keep hearing for most it's the opposite. I also like target brand diapers for my son. It really depends on the shape of the baby and can vary what brands you can use as they grow. I suggest not stocking up and just getting a package at a time until you figure out what works for your baby.
We used maybe 10/day for the newborn days. We had a bunch of disposables the hospital sent home with us, and then 1 jumbo pack of size 1 luvs that we used until DS was just shy of 6 weeks old.
@HappyMonkey817 26 sounds like a good stash! When we switched over to cloth diapers at 6 weeks we had 24 cloth diapers and we were doing laundry every other day or so. It slowed to every 3rd day by about 12 weeks. We also had almost no blowouts and leaks when we switched to cloth

We used a variety (Target brand, Walmart brand, Costco brand, Huggies, and Pampers) in the beginning because we had gotten several as gifts and/or on super good clearance deals. The only ones I DIDN'T like were the Walmart diapers - we never had an issue with any of the other ones. We chose to stick with Target diapers and haven't had any problems!

'They say' 10 to 12 a day. For me. .. It was more like 18. My kids pooped every single feed. Between feeds. At night. Poop all the time! It was like that for weeks. Maybe 4 or 5 weeks before it became more like 10 to 12 a day.

I used pampers swaddlers...they stayed on the best ...walmart brand sucked and would come undone half the time! Huggies I believe is ok, but pampers were higher cut so less accidents.
Our pediatrician said that you should change a baby at least every 2 hours until their bowels regulate - which would be a few weeks. So at least 12 diapers per day but most likely more on days where poop is uncontrollable. Lol

You could get a hundred different answers to this question, it really depends. We definitely liked Pampers Swaddlers best when DS was young. Now he is mostly in Pampers Cruisers. For him, they really just fit better. That is where every baby will be different. For me Huggies were decent, but they run a little smaller, or just didn't go up as high or something. Anyway, there were way more blowouts with them. Now that my son is older, he wears Luvs or store brand sometimes, but for the first 5 or 6 months, I will be steering clear of buying store brand diapers. My son could blow out of practically anything when he was about 2-6 months old. Pampers contained it the best because they go higher up the back. I would suggest trying a small pack of multiple different brands while you find what works best. We got tons of diapers from our baby showers, and they were all different brands, so we tried everything without having to go buy any.
I thick we used about four Small packages of newborn until we switched to Costco's 1-2. It happened because we changed like 3 pee diapers at the doctors office and had a poop blowout on the way to the car so I ran to Costco which was the closest. After we got to the 1-2 diapers we stopped having so many blow outs and leaks because nb diapers don't absorb much. Plus the Kirkland diapers have that blue strip so I'm just starting worth those after we go through the package they give you at the hospital unloads I have a tiny baby my son was 7 lbs 5 oz but got into the six lb range in the first few days.
We used Huggies Little Snugglers initially. I liked that they had the cut out for the umbilical cord while it was healing. Once it was healed, we switched to Pampers Swaddlers. We've alternated between the two ever since, depending on what's fitting better. I agree it depends on the baby what works best - each diaper brand is cut a little differently. Costco's Kirkland diapers are nice, too, but their smallest size is 1, I think.

I think Pampers smells like gasoline. I like Huggies, and Up and Up (Target brand).
Luvs smell like that to me, but only some of the pampers like the dry max that were pulled off the market a while back because they were causing chemical burns.
Regarding the cloth diapers... I think @AggieMom0809 had it right, they weren't the correct type. I know they used hand me downs and none of them have buttons, also with the dozens of styles I've look at for LO have no buttons. So maybe a special newborn cloth diaper that's good for a month? I'll still use disposables for the first month and then switch to the cloth ones so I don't have to buy 12+ diapers to use for only around 30 days.

Or you could make your own. The nb CDs have a higher resale rate than the other CDs. I'm still torn on if I can stick to doing CDs for a newborn, but I have already started my nb stash so there's less of an excuse not to use them

Ohh I had twins so that might alter the scale a bit. Lol

There are also other options like prefolds with covers like these. https://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/mommystouchnewborn.html
